Is Now The Time to HODL Steem?
With the price of Steem below $1.00 for the last few days (hopefully this will change) and being we are not being paid in SBD for now,I have seen a few posts saying that this is the time to increase your SP. Now I don't know why this moment would be any different from any other time as what you get in Steem is the same regardless of the price.
I do think I have this right as payout is pegged to the Steem per USD price, so the Steem a vote gives you remains constant, what changes is the dollar value of this vote.
Now if we were being paid in SBD during the days that it has been worth more than Steem you would have gotten that percentage more Steem, like SBD=$1.00 Steem=$0.80, you would of course on a $1.33 payout using the 50/50 option get a little bit more Steem.
I think this should show you in a clearer way what I think:
As you can see Steem is constant, the only way you can get more Steem in your payouts is if the SBD price is higher than Steem's. This remains so whatever price Steem is at, of course if you get say 0.50 worth of Steem right now and the price goes up, the $0.5 Steem becomes $5.00, but if Steem were worth $10.00 right now you would still get $5.00 for that Steem.
I do think what I said above is true and is what it should be like, on the other hand, I do use the 50/50 option but I don't get exactly 50/50 in my payouts as you can see below, invariably I get more SP than Steem:
In one example I got exactly 50/50, in two of the examples I nearly got 50/50 but not quite, the other two are quite a lot more SP. Now can anybody tell me why this happens?
As for the question, is now the time to HODL, I think the answer is of course Yes, because if we don't think Steem's price will eventually go higher, just what are we doing here? Because regardless of any other reason for being here the main goal of the majority of the people on Steemit is to make money and a low priced Steem just doesn't cut it.
