NASDAQ Inks a Deal With The "Swiss Stock Exchange", focused on "Blockchain Trading"; NASDAQ Partners with the financial giant CITI, focused on "Blockchain Payments"; and NASDAQ has new Patents to reinforce these positions, which reveal they're Planning a Blockchain-Powered "Data System" across the world.
At the same time, as the NASDAQ is aggressively pushing toward commercializing its "Global Payment Network" with Blockchain Technology, another global financial giant, Bank Of America, has filed three new Blockchain Patents, too, focused on "Data Authentication" & "Identity Verification" using blockchain technology.
As Traditional financial companies are setting the infrastructure to survive the pending disruption; they are not planning to simply "be part of" this new industry's global Financial Market -- these traditional financial companies plan to own it! banks can create their own blockchains but who will be mining those coins? themselves? ..so it will not be a decentralized currency but a currency that they will mine with their business partners
Best case for them, it may be semi-decentralized, which will be no match compared to Bitcoin and many other coins that exist today, and will continue to exist, forever. People who don't know any better will miss out, especially as the propaganda machine kicks into the mainstream media.

I have problems finding how relevant are those patents, I'm kind of worried by segwit and the fact that NASDAQ owns Coinbase and indirectly owns blockstream. I've heard how they are a bother to proprietary blockchains for profit if they don't have defensive patents. It doesn't affect the core of the space.
No "side" is perfect, and the traditional systems (including patents) make this hard to figure out. These are more reasons why we want everyone decentralized and open source.
