GONNA START DELEGATING SOON!!! 😲

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Various reasons.

The obvious is that you earn some STEEM/SBD for it.

Some people would call it "passive income", but I tend to strongly disagree with that term and not believe in such a thing.

If it looks like passive income, I think usually it's just that you already paid for the revenue potential and/or there are risks involved. Like take stocks for example: Often people think of their dividends as "passive income", but really the dividend stream was factored into the price of the stock when you bid on it.

(If the goose lays golden eggs, then people will pay a lot for the goose and it's priced higher than if it didn't lay eggs. You're buying the ability to have that revenue stream.)

If there was no dividend, you'd have been able to own a share for less money. And whether you'll ultimately lay enough eggs for it to be profitable isn't a certainty and is just a different form of speculating on the goose.

Any time it could be thought of as "passive income", I bet there's some risk or tradeoff that counterbalances it and makes it potentially a -EV endeavor.

So you're just speculating on the set of risks. And the "revenue" is just a way of visualizing it or structuring how you cash out.

As it relates to STEEM and delegating, there's no guarantee that the price of STEEM won't go down or to 0. So you can have a stake in STEEM and passively earn more, but being able to do that is built in to the current price, and maybe you'd have been better off selling earlier or not buying.

It's just speculating, with a little jazz to it.

So me personally

I'm not interested in selling STEEM.

I'm not as optimistic as some and don't consider anything outside of BTC to be that reliable of a thing to speculate on. But STEEM is interesting and on the short list of non-Bitcoin cryptos that are worth thinking about to me.

But being powered up and putting your SP to use in some way is the only reasonable way to hold STEEM imo. (Otherwise it's like buying a stock that pays a big dividend and not taking the dividend.)

So that's why I always upvote my own posts and comments.

It's cheesy, if you look at the social media of it, but it's just totally normal and hard to argue with when you consider the economics.

I'll stop to pick up pennies on the ground, so it's like, why wouldn't I click a button to reward myself? Lol.

Delegating

So delegating will earn some return without having to self-vote.

People who hate on self-voting are basically confused and looking at it in a weird way, and they don't bother me. And no one has ever complained to me. But still, it's better to not have to.

At least, it's better to not feel like I have to post often enough to be able to optimize my voting power, and not be sure if that's my real motivation rather than blogging/commenting.

Even if the return isn't as good, I'd rather just delegate and use Steemit without as much SP behind me.

Apologies to the people I've been upvoting!

😶 that part makes me sad.

In between self-votes I also do spread the love around and support some people who I find to be good and worthwhile.

It's fun to do and I really enjoy it. I probably will hang on to a little SP, but it'll be less.

But whatever, life goes on.

I'll probably gradually ween off of it, and delegate a little here and there.

Where to delegate??

Anyone have any suggestions??

In general I'd like whatever gives the best return. But also am mindful to what the project is, and don't mind taking a little less if it's a good thing to support or fun or whatever.

Hola

it's like buying a stock that pays a big dividend and not taking the dividend

It's hard not to agree with that

If you're going to delegate for Steem, I think delegating to a bidbot would be your best move.
I'm not sure but I remember reading something about bid.bot being the most profitable bot out there.

On the other hand, if you decide to invest to support some project, it's quite cool. Do I have any in mind? Nah. But I think you could check out the projects on steemit. Actifit, steemhunt, air-clinic blah blah blah

I wish I would offer more but nah...

Blessings

I wish I would offer more but

That's still helpful Mr grey, thanks for coming by.

Just seeing the name of a couple things to keep in mind and go look into helps.

Er... It's Gray. The spelling isn't a big deal but it's a big deal

Good luck finding the right investment plan

Blessings

while you're dillydally or thinking or... Some Oliver Twist is saying its okay to throw some 50 sp my way

Baha I can't believe I did that. I'm usually sharp and attentive with that sort of thing.

Sorry about that Gray :/

No delegation right now.. I don't know what button to press etc and would add more confusion to my mind :p but sent you 10 SBD to keep

10 SBD!?!?!?Thanks man! I'm sure gonna KEEP it!

Don't apologize about the name. I know it was so kinda oversight. You're human, remember?

About delegating, most services provide the links. However, if you wanna do it yourself, go to steembottracker.com/delegation.html

You can figure out the rest

Cheers mate

Yaaaa keep it, withdraw, power up, whatever seems best for TheGray

About delegating

Thanks!!

That's so nice of you!!
It's a nice gesture I saw today. God bless and have a nice day!!

Thanks!

When I looked into it maybe a month ago, it looked like @tipu was the best return. Of course that might have changed by now. Another option if you want to keep it would be using Smartsteem or Minnowbooster to sell your votes. Not sure if that's something you'd be interested in but figured it was worth mentioning.

That's sick, thank you for that info and for doing the profit generate thing.

Ya, I'd heard of the vote selling thing.. don't know exactly how it works but seems like it would take some degree of actively paying attention to it, so probably more looking to delegate.. but will keep it in mind

Thanks

Yea I was pretty happy when I discovered that, haha. Glad I could use it and help out.

Since you don't know a whole lot about vote selling I'll go into a little more detail. Basically you log in with steem connect and give smart steem permission to vote with your account. You can set it so it won't vote under a certain voting percentage so you don't drain your voting power. Then you can set it to automatically withdraw every day, 2 days, whatever and they'll send you the sbd/steem. So you really don't have to monitor it if you don't want. I know a lot of people will set the voting threshold high, maybe 80% or so, so then it only sells when they have idle power instead of letting it go to waste. You'd still have all your sp available, but of course every time you vote you'll lose out on a possible sell. Which is nice if you still want to reward people.

Hope that helps a little more, it's easy just to try if you want. Go to smartsteem.com, they even have a tab where it'll calculate estimated profit for selling or delegating.

Lastly, if you want to try it and feel like helping me as well, this is my referral link https://smartsteem.com?r=Boatsports90 what it would do is give me a small percentage of votes you sell. It doesn't come from your profit though but rather smartsteem's, so you wouldn't be losing anything from using it. Figured it was worth throwing in there, haha.

Oh wow, that's pretty cool that it's setup like that, and ya, definitely not much monitoring or effort, different than I thought. Thanks for clarifying. Very helpful.

So ya, that's def an option I think, I'll crunch the numbers and stuff, maybe I'll do it with whatever amount I don't delegate, if nothing else.

And ya, definitely cool to throw in your link!! Haha.

Yea definitely an easy way to get something back. I'd say even if you have very little sp left it's still worth setting it up. No, you won't make much, but anything is better than nothing if you're not using your sp.

Whoo hoo! Haha, thanks bud

Ya I kinda wish I'd been using that all along!! Lol. I use my voting power a lot, but there were definitely times it sits up at 💯 for a few days. I'd heard about it but just assumed it would take a lot of effort.

@tipu profit for 10,000 sp

Yesterday 10000.0 STEEM POWER delegated or invested gave payout of:
2.185 SBD + 0.677 STEEM (2.65 USD), APR: 12.26% .

Delegation link: steemconnect 10000.0 SP delegation to @tipu.

Please note the profit depends on STEEM price. The higher the STEEM price, the more SBD profit is being generated.

Since you post almost daily you can delegate to the Minnow Builder project and get daily upvotes worth more then if you had self voted with the same SP.

Right now share sales are happening for @minnowbuilder3 and you can see the post here, but this ends in just over 2 days. Once that happens the sale is over at the current price and it will increase to the actual share value.

Super quick overview of the project. Each share purchased is used to fund 2 voting pools. Half goes to giving upvotes for the shareholders and Half goes towards supporting Manually Selected Redfish with free daily votes to help Build then into Minnows.

Since most shareholders don't actually post daily we have been able to give a boost in the voting weight in previous rounds and see no reason that won't happen again with MB3 considering I personally own 110 shares and only post maybe 1-2 times a week.

If you have any questions about the program feel free to message me on discord (thedarkhorse #6765) or ask here.

Next if you are looking to lease some delegation please let me know as @pifc would be interested in leasing some based on the rate. I'll be honest as this is purely a community building project it needs the rate to be as cheap as possible...but I'm willing to foot the bill if the rate is attractive enough.

Thanks for all the info @thedarkhorse.

One thing for me.. one of the reasons I want to move to delegating, is basically to not feel like I need to post often enough. (I may still end up posting just as often.. just want to remove the aspect of feeling like I need to.)

So that would be my only reason for leaning towards regular old delegation rather than a project like yours. But your project sounds great and I'll definitely keep it in mind. I could def see myself delegating a smaller amount, and if I didn't post actively, so be it.

Basically if you post even 2x a week you are getting what is equal to about 7-8 self votes based on the averages we are currently running for those who delegate. If you send steem it's double that as the share costs are based on steem and then double if you delegate.

The reason for this is delegations can be pulled so easily and without warning. This makes running a program a lot more complicated vs own shares where someone sends steem.

If you are interested message me on discord so I can work out the most you would want to buy in any given account to get the highest upvote possible. Also need to calculate the actual share price for each account as they are based on the real value to avoid devaluing current shareholders.

Yo, full! Sell your votes to to smartsteam! Smart steam will give you a large percentage of the Steem they earn from each purchase and you still get access to your steempower its a win win!

Then delegate 250 sp to @Steem-ua who upvotes you once a day based on your ua rep which is calculated by how you use steemit.

My rep was really high and I barley use steemit, so I know you will get a large upvote. The way it’s calculated out is that each upvote from ua is more than what you would get compared to if you upvoted yourself 10 times a day!

This way you get passive income through smart steam, ua upvote which covers your self votes, and access to your sp when you wanna show love!

Posted using Partiko iOS

What a sick answer!!

Do you know if ua upvotes comments too or would I have to post daily to get it? Seems good either way, even if I missed some votes.

The vote selling thing is interesting, boatsports was talking about it here too.. seems easy. I guess it comes down to ROI. I kinda like having it delegated and choosing where it goes and just being done with it.. but if the % is better then that's hard to ignore 🤔

ua just upvotes posts, but it will incentivize you to still stay active on steemit and raise your rep! Your rep is probably really high already so you will most likely get a huge upvote. I would delegate 250 to them regardless of what you do with the rest

As far as delegating vs vote selling, delegating on smartsteem will give you a bit more but I choose to sell votes so I can still have access to my sp whenever I want to support my friends

But I completely understand just wanting to be done with it and if I was in your position I would probably delegate it all away too, as long as it went to a creditable project!

Posted using Partiko iOS

Right on homie!! And that all makes sense.. I actually had noticed before that you weren't delegating and your SP was just sitting there and thought damn, he's wasting it.. but figured you obv knew the angles and were okay with it.. I guess you were doing some vote selling instead, so it all makes sense now!

Haha yeah ima master when it comes to working my sp! They’re a lot of initiatives on steemit like make-a-whale and qurator that allow you to leverage your sp for upvotes.

The question of if it was right or not always bugged me, but smart steem vets all of their customers and I only sell to quality authors, so I don’t feel terrible lol

Just bought alil over 400 steem and am currently trying to figure out the best way to manage it.

I think ima use a bit to promote my post with smart steem because I get 10% return on investment and more people will see my posts.

That way I can slowly turn it into sp while gaining a good roi and exposure. People should never power up in my opinion. If they play the long game they will get more bang for their buck!

Sorry for the long message but passive income gets me going ahahah

Posted using Partiko iOS

Hahaha ya it's a truly sick and exciting topic.

Passive income combined with blogging etc is even better lol

Love all the name drops on projects and ideas and methods etc .. don't ever be shy lol

Also welcome back!! Nice when you pop up every once in a while! 😂 Lol

Haha yeah can’t wait until the next bull run! Ima actually take some profit this time so I can buy steem low and be on your level lol

And yeah I have a easy week with no exams so I thought I would check in lol

Ima try and be more consist on here and try and master some quick votes like stackin lol he is the master at finesse haha

Posted using Partiko iOS

Stackin knows the angles for sure! Lol.

My level ahaha, will be sick, ya it's always so hard to sell during the bull heights even if you kinda know you should.. then you look back and it's like 🤔 coulda had that all locked up and be buying for cheap

Bless easy week, enjoy your time chillin on the steems!

Hi @waphilip! Special squad of highly trained hamsters prepared this delegation link for you:
steemconnect 250.0 SP delegation to @steem-ua.

I guess I'm going to be a bit bold on behalf of a few communities that I belong to. Direct return on investment is zero, however all thecommunities are invested in the interaction and retention of newer members of the Steem chain. For Steem to continue (thus the long term price) , this is one of the weaknesses (retention) that needs to be addressed and these communities are trying to do that (there are other methods, including diversifying away from a blog centric platform).

All three communities would benefit from even a tiny delegation.

@ifc (run by @apolymask) is the Information Finding Championship. It is a long running contest with high quality entries that helps provide a creative hook for members to focus their posting upon, it also is an outlet for creative people to help sell their goods and talents. I recently wrote about it here. It is currently gearing up for it's second Season and is looking for sponsors of delegation support.

@pifc (run by the @thedarkhorse) is a community that has it's members feature at least two other accounts of less than 55 Rep. Visibility for new bloggers is a problem and by trying to help spread the word out on new finds it is just a small way of trying to address this.

The last is my own project @classical-radio which is a curation account for the #classical-music tag which returns the bulk of its earnings to the bloggers that are featured. The @classical-music account (run by @remlaps) was the original creator and curation (but now focuses on bringing others into the tag) , but @classical-radio helps out with the support within the tag.

Again, none of these projects provide a direct ROI. But they are ways of trying to keep Steem worthwhile for the future and thus keeping the price and adoption of Steem afloat. All these accounts are quite small, so even a small delegation helps in a big way!

I guess I'm going to be a bit bold on behalf of a few communities that I belong to.

That's great @bengy, that's basically exactly what I'm looking for, I want to know what's out there, no harm at all showing your own communities!

Thanks for all the info. I'm looking thru them 👀 and I'll let you know if I have any questions!

Thanks for considering it!

100% upvote from @betgames worth $0.26 . We will upvote you until we recover your losses.

Regards,
@betgames

Ty ty @betgames

I delegated to you last nite!!

100% upvote from @betgames until your losses are recovered!

Regards,
@betgames

Omg! How tf did I come so late to this!!! I'm so mad at myself right now!!! Arrrghhhhhhhh! Arggghhhhh!! Arghhhhh!!! I'll continue when I'm done slamming my head on the wall a couple times!

Dooooont slam your head

Look at that bullshit little 21 cent upvote tho rite?? 😫😱

I'm so mad cos I actually belong to quite a few awesome curation communities that could use some delegations and whatnot. It's also funny that I've been reading alll the comments and no one mentioned us. Whyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Anyway I still don't really get why you want to delegate. You're not withdrawing from steem are you? Cos I'll miss u like crazy and might have to do the same lol.

I was probably a little bit too hasty to comment cos I was so mad I came late. I'll just go bang my head some more and then read again and then edit this comment.

EDIT: I get it now. You're leaving and just going for a "passive withdrawal"! Nooooooooooo!!

Aww bro 😍 nahh I'm not leaving, just scaling back how much SP I want to carry and mayyyybe I'll end up posting less? Not sure, but I don't want to feel like I have to post and curate just because I have SP, I'd rather delegate and not be as tied down

EDIT:

bahhah, u silly. I def am not leaving!!! It's too sick, too many wizards and GOATs. But maybe I'll zip in and out with some breaks? I dunnooo

Such a sick read tho I feel like you're calling me out.

Don't bang your head 😔😔 saddd @full-measure .. I won't go I won't go

You should still say what those communities are!!! I delegated some but still have more to go!

<3

It's too sick, too many wizards and GOATs.

Ikr!!!

But maybe I'll zip in and out with some breaks? I dunnooo

Haha I knew it!

But that's definitely a goid idea on a serious note tho. I also don't like the feeling of having to post out of necessity. Like you said it would be much better and healthier to find out why you're really doing it and if indeed you'd still be doing without that.

Plus it's always super swell to be able to take a break, man. I've also begun a social media "except steemit" cleanse. And I'd definitely would have loved to be capable of taking a break from steemit too, so I def understand where you're coming from.

You should still say what those communities are!!! I delegated some but still have more to go!

Ah right. Quite a few of them like I said, but I'll just go @c-squared or @c-cubed (they're basically the same.) Dope curation group that supports ANY and every other curation group on steem. + they also have their curators who dig up tons of posts they curate each day. I'm just gonna tag @carlgnash and see if he shows up anyway. He's one of the founders.

Cheers bro!

Haha I knew it!

🙈🙉

But that's definitely a goid idea on a serious note tho. I also don't like the feeling of having to post out of necessity. Like you said it would be much better and healthier to find out why you're really doing it and if indeed you'd still be doing without that.

yaa exactly. And I dunno FOR SURE what that will end up looking like so technically I can't promise anything. But little to no chance that I'm outtie.. I think the worst scenarios are like I come and go and it isn't exactly the same but I'm still here and when I show up it's like oh, sick.. that kinda thing.

Yaa Steemit seems different than other social media.. breaks can be nice with anything but it's good here and not soul crushing like being tied to Facebook or others would be.

It's more like a platform for your creations than anything.. Twitter is more like YAP YAP YAP zing, let's fight

I'll check out the c's! Thanks homie.

Hey thanks for the shoutout @rasamuel. @full-measure a few words about C² - the Curation Collective is intended as an inclusive community for curators. Anyone can join us on Discord and request the curator role and help us find posts. We have over 200 curators and have curation teams in Burmese, Dutch, Filipino, Indonesian, Italian, Spanish and Turkish languages in addition to English. We also run engagement contests so server members can win Steem by commenting on the posts that C² curates. All posts are reviewed manually by a second curator before upvote looking for spam/plagiarism.

@c-squared typically upvotes/follows/resteems ~70-100 posts daily. This is the account that we are trying to grow with delegation of SP, because it casts too many votes to be the head of an effective curation trail.

We also use the @c-cubed account as the C² blog, publishing a daily post featuring 10 posts recently curated through C² with an additional upvote with the @c-cubed account. @c-cubed casts ~ 10 x 100% votes daily on the featured posts, and is an available curation trail to follow at steemauto.com

Here is an invite to the discord if you want to poke your head around:
https://discord.gg/B8JFmJ4

Yup. No one says it better than Carl.

he seems boss

Thanks for all the info!! Not to sound like a grub 😲 but is there any payout to delegators? Or it's just about trying to improve steemit?

(Not saying I wouldn't still consider if there isn't one.)

ah yeah I should have said that up front :) no payment for delegators, beyond a warm fuzzy feeling of doing good LOL

I am always up for taking delegations. I love to curate and honestly I make more SP on upvotes than if i self vote so I prefer to go do my thing and spread the love. I am always up for renting some also. let me know if you decide to go that way with it.

Nice. What % do you pay? 😲 per week or per month or whatever?

I will vouch for @doomdaychassis. He is a good guy and a inner circle Steemit friend.

And he posts sick photos of Arrowhead Stadium! Cool! Definitely like him from what I see. 🤓

I usually just rent it from minnow booster or blocktrades at whatever the going rate is.

minnow booster or delegation hub let you name what you want to rent for. going rate right now is about .5 or .6 steem per 100 steem rented where as blocktrades just rents it in 13 week blocks so for 1000 sp it cost you about 45 to 48 sbd. I just kinda float around and try to get the best deal I can on it.

i jsut try and make as much out of what I have as i can. LIke i started my own curation trail to help curate comedy open mic posts and that kind of stuff but on my personal account I have some autovotes set up that I try to get to pay out double what I put in.
double.JPG

sometimes I hit gold
rediculous.JPG

It is all a numbers game and timing really a lot of the time. I am just trying to build as much steem power as humanly possible

You can start with steem ua. Great project.

Thanks warped! I'll take a look at it.

If you are thinking of Steem UA, my friend wrote this post about how some groups gets larger shares of the upvote pie than others.
