Long Exposure in Amsterdam

Here are two long exposure shots I have wanted to do in Amsterdam for years. Last summer I managed to do it. I was a little unlucky as we had been in holland for a whole week already and decided to cap off the trip with a few days in Amsterdam. In that week we had wonderful weather everyday.. then suddenly the day we went to amsterdam it started to piss with rain and didn't stop until we got to the airport to head home.

I thought 'To hell with the weather!' I had spent a significant amount of time researching the city to figure out where these two locations were so that I could get the shots. Had the weather been better I definitely would have hung around long and gotten some more shots from a couple different angles.. but the rain was unforgiving and even if your camera is weather proofed, there is only so much rain it can take.

So after a few obnoxious hours in the rain walking from location to location to get these shots I was done and pleased of it! Have you ever been in that kind of driving misty rain that although its not heavy rain it still permeates everything and no matter what you do soaks you right through? It was like that and I hated it. Its the worst kind of rain you can encounter. But I got the shot, and I'd endure that crap again to get the shot if I had to. How far would you go to get the shot.. or rather, how far have you gone to get the shot?

Thanks for Looking.

Both of those shots are absolutely stunning, but, the second one really, really pulls me closer.

I think it is the canal with the street or perhaps the directional positions of the buildings. I cannot tell you, but, it has a great appeal to me.

I have laid down on the road in San Juan, Puerto Rico to get some street shots, with a spotter and sometimes feel the rush of air as they go by. But, I got the shot.

Thanks! That is also my favourite of the two. I'm glad you had a spotter on the road as that's pretty dicey. Its like with train tracks, so many stories of photographers getting seriously hurt. I bet it was a great shot you got :) The ones that take risk and effort are usually the better more interesting ones! :)

That is beautiful!

Those pictures are amazing and glad you manege to get some as the weather was crazy.. Lol
Really beautiful shots dear!
Seem like a place to visit 😉

Thanks! Sometimes you just need to persevere with the conditions :) it's definitely a great place to visit, it's great for a weekend, I recommend it :)

So true my friend. Beautiful shots and I belive that it is a great place and I will put it on my wish list... Lol

fantastic results taken in these bad weather conditions !
in the first days of september this year i visited Munich just for a few days. the rain started exactly at the day of my arrival and finished just 2-3 hours before my flight back .. ! damn timing

Thanks! Man that's really bad luck! It's a shame when that happens but you got make the best of it sometimes :) Were you able to get some nice shots despite the bad weather?

Those are 2 beautiful shots. Props to you for fighting through the elements! Patience is rewarding :)

Thanks! yes, patience is the name of the game :)

It was worth the perseverance! Great shots!

Well worth the effort! Great shot.
I’m an opportunistic iPhone photographer. Not much planning, but I will stop in the middle of my run if something catches my eye.

Sometimes thats the best way to get a really unique shot. I always have a camera with me as well as you never know what you may encounter! :)

You managed to get great shots especially with the conditions

Ohh yes for e thats almost the worst sort of rain not really that heavy but it seems to have a mind of its own and finds its way through your waterproof layers with ease

Thanks, for me too.. its amazing how that kind of rain can work its way through just about anything.

Indeed so annoying after a little while

What color is. I love them, beautiful pictures
