Today there will be another livestream with @ned.

He asked the community to submit questions and many did. You can read them all here

I also submitted a question:

Steem Monsters can utilise all their Steempower to reward their community for adding value to Steem Monsters.(because they have a second revenue stream).

Would Steem inc consider doing similar with their stake to add value to Steem inc? It's currently not being used.

Further explanation:

There is plenty of talent on here that will happily do work for you guys for an upvote or maybe some delegation (think normal amounts, 5k-20k).

You guys want to build tools to create great communities but at times forgetting to use the one you have build already.

Don't underestimate the willingness of this community to do what it takes and to help out.

What we need to know is what you guys need and then we can think about how to bring these two together.

It could suppress costs (using your stake is free) and help you guys out wherever you need it and it will also let talented people earn some extra Steem.

What do you guys think? Bad question? good question?

Am I missing something?

Any good suggestion get's a 10% upvote (max. 20 votes).

ps.

Using my stake to reward users for something I need is new to me. Just giving it a shot and (hopefully) to prove a point for a later vlog.

A page could be taken from the Bitshares Model.

They use worker proposals which anyone can submit. These worker proposals are voted on by the community and if accepted the workers are payed from the reserve pool.

In this case Steem inc. could put out a proposal and then the "worker" that is selected could be payed by Steem inc through upvotes.

Great idea @exyle!

Thanks for sharing this man!

Your comment has earned you 43 cents (I know it's not that much but hopefully when the markets turn round that 1 STEEM you now earned will be worth $5).

Some extra info from the documentation here:

WORKING FOR BITSHARES
In order to be get paid by BitShares, a proposal containing

the date of work begin,
the date of work end,
a daily pay (denoted in BTS),
the worker’s name, and
an internet address.
has to be publish on the blockchain and approved by shareholders.

Sorry but I disagree with the implication of the question ( in the short run) , let me explain:

Maybe if we had built such community based development bridges in past we can turn to them in current need , so it is certainly worth pursuing in the long run.Maybe even having a dedicated non profit dev org supported by STINC stake.

In the short run :
we need quick wins with shorter on ramp to execute.

I will copy/past my comment from the ned post , whose crux is basically , can we do goals which are not dev heavy , since the SMT date is already on the line :

Marketing is one thing that needs to be a LOT higher priority (IMO).

@ned

In my observation ( 1-10 scale) , we are almost at zero and there is a lot to show to the outside world ( Dtube/Musing/Actifit/Partiko/Sharetosteem/Steem community/so on..).

It wouldn't even take a whole lot of dev resources , so , can we atleast turn marketing up to 3

But what is there to market right now? For me the total package was a thing to market. SMT's with a turnkey blockchain. But those SMT's are now delayed as far as I understood it. I heard simple tokens being mentioned. That could be a short term solution to implement and market. Turnkey blockchain that is fast + own token.

Right now, I can only see Steem Monsters market their product once they have tournaments in place. It's a complete game that works with ownership of cards and a marketplace.

And the reason they can market this product is because they sell a product (cards). Non of the other apps have a product they can sell. It are mostly tools to create content, relying on the reward pool or delegation that's now worth a lot less.

Have you tried out actifit or musing ?

they are perfectly marketable proof of concepts , IMHO.

Look at this level of PR for the exact same product

https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@itstime/mark-cuban-likes-the-idea-of-actifit

Why can't we do it for a finished and working product ?

Using large stake to enhance and reward the Steem community by upvotes is a great idea. I think Utopian-io is already doing this a lot, they have pretty clear guidelines on what is eligible, so the bickering is minimal there.

Also, aside from rewarding useful tasks being carried out by the community, another idea is to the following:

Appoint a Great Content Curator, who will be delegated SP for curation and management of curation. This title (and the delegation that comes with it) would be a 12 week position (3 months have 13 weeks, that last week is needed for delegation transfer). He/she could appoint 10 (number tbd) other curators, who will get a smaller SP delegation, who all could appoint 10 other curators with an even smaller SP delegation, and so forth, until the curation group is so big, it can out-compete the bid-bots and we will have the best content trending on Steem.

Clear rules for content curators should be defined, but I guess the different Curation Groups already have a lot of experience here (OCD, Curie and all the others). Not following the rules could result in ending the delegation, decided by the manager of the 10 curators.

Additionally to the curation rewards, in time a system should be developed to rank the quality of the curated posts and a reward should be given to performing well (curating high quality posts, amount of activity from curators, management of the curators you are responsible for, etc). This reward could also be the renewal of the position for a job well-done, but I do think the guy at the top should change every 3 months, with the possibility of retaking that position once per year or so.

We would have a big community voting event going on for recommending curators on all levels during the week of SP delegation transfer.

Well, this idea should be refined, but the idea is to use a big portion of stake to sponsor good curation efforts. I believe in the end, the success of this platform is determined by the extent in which we succeed to capture the best content and the best content creators on the internet into our eco-system.

If we would measure this by the quality of the trending page, I would say there's still room for improvement.

My whole point was that Steem inc should use their SP to reward people that add value to Steem inc (and indirectly the Steem blockchain) to cut costs and not upvote posts and curate content.

They can set bounties for tasks they need doing like Website design (example) so it doesn't cost them resources and time, just voting power/delegation and trust the community to help them out. It can even be outsourced to Utopian for instance. If done well, everyone on the blockchain benefits.

imo i don’t know why they don’t entertain selling ads on certain posts. Steemians could opt-in or opt-out of the ad placement revenue generating opportunity. Ad revenue on trending or hot or whatever posts could be split between Steemit Inc and the poster. If you get enough upvotes to go above the “ad threshold,” then you’d be happy to earn some extra STEEM. Do it enough times and maybe you start opting out.

I dunno. I think there are ~50k DAU’s here. Why not figure out a smart way to monetize them to help pay Steemit for running this glorious blockchain?

I am not opposed to adds if that helps them out even though I do run an add-blocker. For Steemit I would turn it off, because I care about it. Something I don't feel with any other site.

If they could make a it work between the poster and them selfs with Steem as an extra reward even better!

Also could figure out a way to make advertisers pay for ads with STEEM tokens. This would benefit the average STEEM hodler greatly.

Maybe even create a Steem Words marketplace for potential advertisers to bid on placement in certain tags.

I dunno. Just thinking out loud.

The whole space is gonna hafta go through a “lean & mean” phase here for the next 6-18 months.

But like Nietzsche said, “Whatever doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”

Once BitTube's browser extension is out of beta in 4 weeks, advertisers will be irrelevant. This will block ads and reward publishers and users.

Once BitTube's browser extension is activated in 4 weeks, you'll be able to block ads while rewarding publishers and yourself at the same time. I've been testing the BETA version and it works well. To me, that is the best way to go.

I’m not familiar with that. Where does the money come from though?

TUBEs (BitTube's cryptocurrency) are mined just like Steem.

it's actually a valid question. They should of thought of this from the beginning. Utopian is doing the same. Almost all communities are working with upvotes to motivate people. They can submit bounties to Utopian and make use of the community we built. And finally work together on One Level. For Delegations/Upvotes.

Utopian relied fully on the delegation from Steem inc (and 1 other big player) for their revenue. They have realised this is a huge treat to them and are looking for other revenue streams. It's just smart.

You are right when you say Steempower is a great tool to reward anyone that adds value to Utopian but it can't be the business model to use to pay for everything.

I'll come back to the question but this:

Using my stake to reward users for something I need is new to me. Just giving it a shot and (hopefully) to prove a point for a later vlog.

Is something I've been involved in from both sides over the past year. Last night I was asked to do a report and told a vote would be the reward. In fairness, I'd pull the report for free (to most people!), but I think it's a great way of earning some STEEM for 10/15 minutes work, and should be utilized more.

I had assumed, or read somewhere that the 'steemit' stake was not to be used for voting. That's sort of gone out the window since delegated SP (and misterdelegation) arrived, so why not have an account 'steemdevfund' or something with SP specifically for to vote work carried out for Steem.

I wonder who would manage the voting, and if they would suggest that utopian-io could handle the process, like they do with @utopian.tasks at present.

I think it's worth posing the question for sure, and will be tuning in to see what is said.

Have a good day!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Your comment has earned you 43 cents (I know it's not that much but hopefully when the markets turn round that 1 STEEM you now earned will be worth $5).

If Steem inc started to vote with their stake it will 'dilute' the reward pool a bit for everyone. But if value is being added and that STEEM end up in good hands I think it would be accepted.

The suggestion to use other applications to manage the voting is cool. The whole voting process can be outsources to reduce costs and still get them what they need. A couple of oracles to keep things in check could be handy too. (just throwing stuff out there).

It makes a lot of sense for them to use their stake in such a way, but if they did act according to your suggestion I can already see the constant bickering and drama around who/what got voted on and how much etc. It could be a political nightmare for them. It's up to them to weigh the pros and cons of following such a plan, and I'm sure they've considered it before.

Bickering and drama has been part of this blockchain since day 1. In the end they are a business. If this can reduce costs and help them get what they need for low costs it's something to consider. Outsourcing the process is an option.

If developers and companies worried about bickering and drama, there would be no blockchain. It comes with the territory. I think you may have pinpointed the #1 reason why people wouldn’t want to utilize it though :) nobody wanted to deal with the politics of they don’t have to.

If everyone delegates 50% of their Steem Power to a Steem Inc account, just until the Steem Price is above $1.00 again or Steem Inc. is able to support itself again. To get through these desperate Crypto times. I believe we all have skin in the game.

The company's share of the pie is big enough, that's not the problem. If you want to support infrastructure by delegation, support apps or witnesses who run full nodes. For supporting volunteer developers, @exyle's proposal here makes sense.

Hi exyle. Just be direct as this is too important. Ask them what Steemit Inc needs to get back on track and where the community can fit in and assist.
