Stop Spamming r/steemit! Promote Steemit Instead.

Lately, I was excited about recent efforts to improve the steemit subreddit. Why bother on Reddit when we can just be on Steemit, you ask? Any increased exposure we can get to Steemit and attract users to Steemit is a worthy cause that will only increase demand, so we all have some skin in this game. And we can all do our part as well.

This is a plea to anyone out there reading to stop link-dumping your posts into the sub-reddit. Let's be honest. Nobody is clicking in from Reddit to read your beautifully-crafted masterpieces. And even if they were, you don't benefit at all because they won't have an account!

We only need a handful of Steemit links to get the introductory effect of "Hey what's that dollar sign on this strange website's post?" Actually, that's likely to be a very small fraction of users stumbling upon r/steemit in the first place. I suspect people are more likely to have heard about Steemit from word-of-mouth and want to check out what the fuss is about. With real discussion, not a graveyard of posts.

My personal anecdote matches this. Finding out about Steemit for me was through researching cryptocurrencies. My Reddit lurking habits prompted me to seek out the subreddit for a source of discussion to find out more. There was nothing but weird link dumps, and I immediately turned away. This could be a different experience altogether! Considering that Steemit is actually very similar to Reddit in function (and name ;) ), it makes sense for Reddit to be a springboard into our great community.

I've come out of Reddit lurking and established a Reddit account so I can start engaging potential curious Redditors, and I feel that if we are already on Reddit for other things, we all can do the same. Or at the very least, help not make it a graveyard.

What do you all say?

TLDR: STOP SPAMMING r/STEEMIT.

Thanks!

You make an extremely strong point here. They want to read about the benefits of Steem, the politics of Steem, the good and the bad of Steem. Not some random post about a butterfly.

They can read that when they start using the platform ;]

We wrote about this yesterday.
Good initiative to improve the reputation of Steem.
Steem Dollar price is 5,60 at the moment by the way!

It's like how a good post should be on Steemit, more content, interactivity, and discussion. And a good variety of topics, not just pictures and random links that don't mean a thing.

I'm not on reddit, so I guess I'm free and clear. Maybe I post too much on discord with the semi-useless post promotion channels. Except of course #theunmentionables post promotion channel, they rock the world. :-) @ironshield

Thank you for Using #promo-steem tag, Promote steemit by inviting your friends and your family!

Good thought. I realized that I was doing this the moment I saw your title. I'm gonna stop now. Thanks! Upvoted. Resteemed.

Funnily enough, it got me to your blog. I think these link posts are okay if controlled properly. :). Somehow.....
