Dimensionality and Zippers

This really excited me the other day.

Branded Zipit, it's a small purse monster with a lot of zipper lines on it. And cute zipper teeth.

At first glance, it looks like the zipper lines are cosmetic. But as I took a second glance at the track, there it was. One continuous space filling curve along the surface. My eyes lit up and immediately got to work.

(Okay fine, yes, the first picture already reflects partial work already. This is not a complete, chronological blog.)

But no, you can really dismantle the whole fellow. Poor thing, I've already thrown its eyeballs into space.

It dismantles until it becomes a line. I didn't do it but that's what I imagine.

So this is a monster that can flatten itself to sneak through tight spaces. Don't want to mess with this fellow. I bet this could be turned into a nice puzzle platformer game. The Zipper Chronicles. And it should have all sorts of cheeky jokes and puns.

"Zis zippy veather iz zapping ze zrength!"

Eh. Something like that.

Isn't it amazing how something "almost 1 dimensional" becomes a bag that can fill up space?

I was going to say 3 dimensional but then it's really a 2D surface. But one could imagine layering this surface like a lasagna and then it could be. Zipper LaZagna.

Oh. Actually 3D printing is a quicker example. Turns that long thin tube of plastic into any 3D shape you want. Maybe it's not amazing after all.

But back to Zipit, I think if I ever got that I'd carry it around in its linear form. Doubles as a rope! And a shopping bag! Well I guess I'd need a much longer zipper for that. And would take awhile to assemble.

Am I crazy to be excited about this bag?
