Dissolve or Reform

The above topic represents the two choices left for the current ways state interventions are on families in the US. I personally am quite comfortable with the former option but the sake of dialogue and a realistic approach, considering a reform isn’t farfetched.

One thing is for sure: we cannot continue with the way things are done presently. I think failure to address the rising cases of abuse by the Department of Child services through its CPS arms In counties – will result in further unrest, leading to a backlash of some sorts that is not immediately predictable. One thing is for sure, we need to address this issue as soon as we can at a holistic level to avoid unintended and unfavorable circumstances.

Dissolving the CPS arm of the department would not be the big disaster that a lot of people are actually led to believe. It is quite true that we cannot ignore the fact that there are indeed cases of actual abuse on children which CPS handles, however few they may be. That may be true, but the current system is an expensive, inefficient and corrupt laden system that actually makes up a lot of abuse cases and destroys more families than it saves. It makes no sense seeking to maintain a system that has clearly failed in the only mandate it was originally given – Save children from actual abuse. I have talked severally about how they have deviated from this mandate into a money making, power hungry agency. You can look at some of our friends on this community who have fallen victim to this system to understand the level of abuse and deviation that is purported.

If reform is to be considered an option it must be done now and fast. First of all, it is obscene the level of powers a caseworker wields, what’s more, they have extended that overreach into matters that supersede their concern like law enforcement. The whole system of operation must be addressed immediately for any middle ground to be attained that gives a satisfactory level of justice without subjecting innocent families to abuse.

I think one way to reform the child welfare system is to take the powers of her agencies completely. Rather than the current Law enforcement arm-like structure that it operates, it instead need to evolve into a service structure that provides actual aid to families it feels may need their intervention. If you feel a child is being neglected, the agency may provide free counseling services devoid of any persecutory powers. Only in obvious cases of suspected neglect should it recommend such cases for a THOROUGH INVESTIGATION.

I would very much be okay with scrapping the whole system, and simply adopting alternative investigation methods outside Government interference, be that as it may, Justice simply needs to be done before things degenerate.

Sort:

I lived in El Salvador for 9 months, so I will give you an example of how the Police Force was reformed there.
The Police Force had become very corrupt. Taking Bribes was accepted and expected by all the police officers.
When the Civil War finally ended (after years and years) and a completely different government was finally elected by the people (the Guerilla fighters leader won against the corrupt elite government)
the new leaders realized that it was not possible to reform the actual Police Officers who had spent years used to the old, corrupt way of doing things.

So the decision was made to FIRE EVERY POLICE OFFICER and start all over again. They brought in American police officers to train them on how to do things. Actually, the old police officers were slowly fired as soon as fresh newly trained police officers could replace them.

I think a similar thing would need to be done with the Social Services system of all our countries where it has become utterly corrupt.
The current Social Workers all need to be replaced with fresh workers, or with old workers who quit because of all the corruption that they saw and couldn't bear it. Perhaps a way could be devised to look and see if there are any current Social Workers who have really, really low removal rates and really, really high reunification rates ... and maybe those workers could stay a part of the system, and maybe train the new workers.

At any rate ... something drastic has to be done and all the Social Workers who are callous and have no love for humanity need to be tossed out.

Also, every single foster care child must have their cases re-opened and re-examined, to see if reunification with their parents is in the child's best interest.

Thank-you @empress-eremmy for bringing up this discussion!

It pains me that our current system may not enable the El Salvador route. I don't think it'll be possible to let workers go without a major backlash. I genuinely believe completely stripping them of their powers to an advisory role will be the most feasible, even that will take a some guts.

Since this is the first time I'll be speaking with you directly, I must say you guys are doing a great job... Perhaps more than you realize.

I'm also interested in the medium/long term plan of @familyprotection. I know the Location differences may be a slight hindrance for a unified legislation push but I hope FP can do a lot more in the coming years. Hopefully we get an article from you guys about the vision

@familyprotection is a grass roots movement and we haven't completely figured out our future direction yet.

We are trying to let our crypto funds build up for at least a year before we start using much of the money, as we expect cryptos to go up a lot in value which will increase the funds available if we can hold on longer.

I know that we haven't been doing many update posts from the account lately, but we hopefully will start doing that again soon.

Hi Coconut. We have the same issues in South Africa right now. Not only the police force but the entire government is corrupt. They are so used to getting their own way and manipulating the payments for themselves that everyone needs to go and start a fresh. This won't happen and therefore the corruption will just continue. It may slow down a tad whilst the heat is on but will still continue.

"Child Protection Agencies" are taking children away from their loving families.
THESE FAMILIES NEED PROTECTING.

Excellent Post.
What you typically see in agencies like these is that it takes time to dissolve them. Many children and people are in the system and engaged, so it would take time to unwind it to the point of dismantling.

The other problem is that the population would need to become aware the agency will no longer exist, so they can step in and create, if need be, possible solutions to 'what the agency was supposed to be doing all along' or maybe even 'root cause analysis'.

I got some great info tying Planned Parenthood to this. CPS snatches kids and puts them in foster care where they are abused, PP is performing abortions and not reporting the abuse. As healthcare pros they fall under the mandatory reporting guidelines... But nobody is reporting it- especially the news!
