What's Your Understanding of Adding Value to Fellow Creators? How are you Adding Value to Others?

in #community5 years ago (edited)

Hey Friends :)

So I noticed there's a lot of talk on engagement and adding value to your fellow creators this last few weeks. To be honest I feel like this is a subjective concept. In my thinking, what maybe valuable to me may not be valuable to another creator . So here I am probing this question to you guys. I am very interested to know what you guys consider as adding value or what you feel you are doing that is adding value to another. Let's talk some more about it on this Vlog.

Love,

El.

Thank you so much for asking our fellow dtubers some meaningful and healthy question.

I've been thinking last night how to response to this Vlog..

I guess I don't have the perfect answer.

However I'm sharing this YT vlog for you NOT to watch but read the comments only. Those comments on the Vlog are the evidence of Value created by this particular content.

When I see Zero comments on the Dtube vlogs and seeing 100's of bot upvotes I'm sorry I don't like it.

When I see someone creating Vlogs after Vlogs with really messed up thumbnails, I can tell most people just don't care

When I see fake accounts gets upvote, When I see people post the same video again and again, when I see new Dtubers get ignored...

I guess I leave it here.

Please do not take anything personal and It's challenges that we've with Dtube and first we need to just come out of Discord channel sometimes and spend some time in

The more time we spend here the better for Dtube to grow and We grow with it.

Happy November and Let's fix things at once and build a good foundation and culture for us. And let's grow together :)

Hi Nathan, Happy November :)

Thank you for a comprehensive feedback, I guess what has been most interesting is getting to know what people find valuable in response to their content. One thing is quite clear though, everyone wants just some sort of feedback about what they put out here. They want to know if it's impactful or not.

I will be sure to check out the comments sometime later on, have yourself a good one.

Hi @elsiekjay, I believe value is subjective as well, but when we apply common sense, we can agree on some "generic" value.

For example, when @sergiomendes commented on my intro video that I should look to the camera and not to the viewfinder, that added (knowledge) value because I learnt. (I consider that by mentioning him on this anecdote, I am also adding value because he will possibly reply giving his own point of view and insight, but that could fall into the generic value)

On the other hand when someone makes a comment appreciating something about my post, it adds value in the form of gratification. Same could be said when someone removes their 1% upvote from a trail and re upvotes with a higher percentage. It shows the post was actually read, or the video was watched. This adds value not only on an appreciative level, but also on a monetary level.

There are deeper levels of value (in my opinion), for example when you pay attention to someone's post and comment in order to establish a connection, it adds value in the relationship levels.

Now, it is possible to add value by posting about things you are an expert at, and that they can be used on most of people's day to day activities. From self help, to constructive criticism.

Of course there are specific niches, I could make videos about how to create music with only a computer and free software, but this would only be valuable to those who are interested in this kind of activities.

So, I believe it's a question about what kind of value do we want to give? Generic? Or specific?

Cheers

I agree with all You have said. But I thi k we just need to have fun and enjoy the ride and stop caring with the value or quality... At least when it comes to talk about it. We just should keep creating. Believe me people will leave their opinions and tell you what they don't like. Lol it is the Internet in the end ehehe

Let's just put out there whatever we want. We are all different and we can make everyone happy ehehe

Hehehe, I have been preaching about having fun for as long as I can remember :D , I feel it makes it more relatable and brings out the real you you know I mean? If it doesn't feel ok, leave it. Great Points ;)

That's also true! @sergiomendes it's important to keep having fun, otherwise there's no point on doing anything.

For sure. That way don't work in a creative area if you are not enjoying it.

WOW. This is by far one of the most valuable comments I have seen this week. It has made me have a different perspective on this matter. All that you have highlighted makes perfect sense to me.
Thank you for such a clear , well detailed feedback

:) your comment added value because I am smiling for feeling useful to you, @elsiekjay.

So we can conclude value is retroactive :)

Let's thank the cup of green tea I had just before I wrote the comment hahaha

Much love!

You know, but narrative is push ENGAGEMENT right? Do you think they are having us comment more. Engage a lot as a way of beta testing the amount of RCs, etc? I wonder sometimes. I mean I think content is equally as important as ENGAGEMENT but maybe there's a bigger reason then the surface ones we think it is?

I honestly hadn't thought of it in terms of RC'S. I was actually talking about how everyone is pushing for engagement in terms of comments as a way to add value.

I always think of the background stuff. Hey I said I can make videos, not think straight. Lololol. I get an A for effort. I just couldn't help but think of it like that. I get what your talking about, I think most have the same sediment. Whenever my brain automatically agrees with somebody it always thinks of another reason why. It's how my brain has always worked

Love that you're bringing up this subject! To me, adding value means that I informed, entertained, or expanded the conversation in some way by adding my own insights. It might also mean that I ask a great question that prompts the original topic creator to further the original content. I'm curious to hear what others have to say on this!

Thank you for such a comprehensive feedback @rosemaryoneill, I think when you put it like that I can now have a vivid idea of what to offer/look forward to. Equally eager to get others input on this.
