Project Details

OroCRM is an Open-Source Customer Relationship Management Software.

OroCRM allows you to create a 360° view of your customers across multiple channels, organize the sales pipeline, manage account and contact information, communicate with customers, run marketing campaigns and track campaign performance.

Contribution Specifications

OroCRM is currently being translated into more than 35 languages, I contributed to making the OroCRM project accessible to Colombia's Spanish speaking community online.

I was assigned to translate this project into Spanish (Colombia). There is also the Spanish (General) section on the project's Crowdin, along with Spanish (Argentina) and Spanish (Mexico).

Translation Overview

This project's niche has to do with e-commerce.

Since the OroCRM platform works with Magento, which is an e-commerce platform that provides online merchants with multiple tools for the functionality of their online store, a lot of the project's words are short and simple and have to do with online buying and selling.

In this contribution I finished translating one of the subfolders I was assigned to work on for the OroCRM project: messages.en.yml, located in folder: OroMagentoBundle as is shown in the following image:

While I was working on the last parts that needed to be translated in this subfolder, I was able to learn about multiple concepts related to e-commerce that I previously didn't know anything about:

1 . Parent item & Child item.
Parent item refers to any one item that possesses the original (default) characteristics and Child item is any slight variation of the same aforementioned product. The variations might be of color, size or any other variation of the original product.

2 . Stock-keeping unit.
Also known as "SKU" is the unique ID of a product and all attributes associated with the item type that distinguish it from other item types.

3 . VAT.
It stands for Value-added Tax.

4 . Lifetime value
It is a marketing concept regarding the monetary value of a customer relationship, based on the present value of the projected future cash flows from the customer relationship.

The project's source language is English and it was translated into Spanish (Colombia).

Besides collaborating on Open Source Projects on Crowdin I also work as a Freelance Translator for a law firm in the US, I've been working for that company for 7 months, translating sworn statements and legal documents from English to Spanish and viceversa.
