OroCRM´s Github Repository
Project Details
OroCRM is an Open-Source Customer Relationship Management Software.
OroCRM allows you to create a 360° view of your customers across multiple channels, organize the sales pipeline, manage account and contact information, communicate with customers, run marketing campaigns and track campaign performance.
Contribution Specifications
OroCRM is currently being translated into more than 35 languages, I contributed to making the OroCRM project accessible to Colombia's Spanish speaking community online.
I was assigned to translate this project into Spanish (Colombia). There is also the Spanish (General) section on the project's Crowdin, along with Spanish (Argentina) and Spanish (Mexico).
Translation Overview
This project's niche has to do with e-commerce.
The OroCRM platform works with MailChimp and Dotmailer. They are online marketing companies that provide their clients with e-mail marketing services for their businesses, so a lot of the translated text is short and simple and has to do with business campaigns and visibility.
In this part of my contribution for OroCRM, I started translating two folders:
1 . OroCRMDotmailerBundle
2 . OroCRMMailChimpBundle
These were some of the concepts I learned while translating OroCRMDotmailerBundle and OroCRMMailChimpBundle:
1 . Segmentation
It is defined as a strategic approach to finely tune groups of target markets based on commonalities representative of your ideal customers.
Put simply, segmentation allows you to divide your markets or customers into distinct groups with commons needs and characteristics. Once they’re broken into smaller groups, you can get a better understanding of both current and potential customers, using the insights you discover to effectively target the latter.
2 . Campaign
In online marketing and retail, a campaign is a series of activities linked by a plan of action which all contribute toward a larger defined business goal.
3 . Dotmailer, MailChimp and Magento
In spite of the fact that these 3 words aren't marketing concepts per se, but platforms that offer marketing services and tools for e-commerce, I had to investigate and learn about what these companies offer and how they all relate to the functionality of OroCRM in order to fully understand the overall meaning of the text so as to properly and accurately translate it.
Dotmailer
Dotmailer is an e-mail marketing platform that lets companies use transactional and behavioral data to design, test and send powerful email campaigns.
MailChimp
MailChimp is a software which gives you the ability to create and manage mailing lists, newsletters and automated campaigns. It allows you to have full control over your email marketing efforts from beginning to end. MailChimp is simple and easy to use and its software gives you access to an array of email marketing tools all conveniently located in one place.
Magento
Magento is an ecommerce platform built on open source technology which provides online merchants with a flexible shopping cart system, as well as control over the look, content and functionality of their online store. Magento offers powerful marketing, search engine optimization, and catalog-management tools.
Languages
The project's source language is English and it was translated into Spanish (Colombia).
Besides collaborating as a translator for Open Source Projects on Crowdin I also work as a Freelance Translator for a law firm in the US, I've been working for that company for 7 months, translating sworn statements and legal documents from English to Spanish and viceversa.
