Finally

in #addiction7 years ago (edited)

So I had some sake last night.

But hear me out!  I don't consider this to be a fall from grace. I drank responsibly, took my time with it, and took care of myself during and afterward. I made a conscious decision to share some sake with Omar, since it does not contain the high amounts of sugars present in other liquors. Of course, I do not intend to go back to my previous overuse of alcohol. Just because I wanted to enjoy a drink yesterday does not mean I want one every day.

Okay, I mean, let's face it. I do want one every day.

Or a few. Several.

But I am stronger than that, and if anything, allowing myself a bit was akin to a test of my willpower. I can't consider myself to be strong if I run away. How can I call it being strong if what I am truly doing is avoiding the opportunity to exercise that strength at all costs? No, the kind of strength I want is the kind that allows me control.

This is not a destination. It's a journey.

On this, the twelfth day of my change in dietary habits,

I am finally seeing some of the terrible body inflammation I've been struggling against go down!

This selfie was taken today. I can see my collarbones again! Kinda. And my belly is going down!

This selfie was taken three days ago.

Not only is the inflammation finally going down, but I feel better, too.

I have an easier time keeping up with meal preparation and cleaning, and I find that I can continue completing these activities for longer periods of time. My focus/concentration is better, and my numerous body aches have begun to subside.

Here's to continuing this reduction of alcoholic intake and elimination of refined sugars!

I greatly appreciate all of you who have chosen to follow me on this journey to better health, and I hope nobody is too disappointed by my choices.

I know I'm not. ;)

Sort:

Getting rid of refined sugars will change your body for the better. You will not get "brain fog" and you will improve your GI bacteria. As for the drinking...just make sure to be proactive and have a game plan before drinking. Set a number of drinks for the night or have someone monitor your drinking. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the support! Omar was my "chaperone" lol

And I have already begun to feel a reduction in brain fog, as you mentioned! It's true! It really does make a huge difference.

Drink Count: 1

Sake is what I consider quality/premium liquids. Consumption in moderation is key. Having one or two during your meal especially with your partner is perfectly normal. Now having countless drinks into the wee hours is NOT!

Keep STEEM N ON,
Frank

P.S. I am not disappointed, you are being honest!

Thank you! I really appreciate the understanding and the support! It's a relief to hear that I haven't disappointed everyone. I want to continue to inspire others.

If you have a drinking problem it isn't a good idea to try moderate drinking.

I guess we'll see how well it goes. I won't avoid a problem. I'll solve it.

Thank you for posting this ! Maybe the once in a while will work maybe it won't but the fact you were honest and didn't hide it is awesome ! A lot of people wouldn't post the next day. I gave up drinking for years and went back to once in a while and it's been fine. Someone else who gave up drinking and went back might be outta control again after years away. Only you know urself ! Everybody's different. I love reading ur updates I hope you'll keep em coming👍 Again just the fact You posted this says a lot about you and where ur head is at. don't let anyone tell you you screwed up ! you certainly did not ! You rock !

Wow! I think I love you!

Seriously, though, thank you so much! You have no idea the kind of impact your words have had on me. I was so torn, because I do know myself well enough to know that I wouldn't go overboard, but I was so worried about what everyone would say. Your comment is a relief and also highly encouraging. I considered posting about something else, but in the end I chose honesty.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate you!

I'm gonna leave this here too:

Alcohol is not good for healthy my dear @ellemarieisme

Please do not sake again.. Healthy is no. 1..
That's why we are not allowed to be drunk..

Since your man has helped me so much. Thought I'd extend the olive branch. I'm no blogger but here's a post I did on cold submerging. Research shows it can help with addictions. Also it will really help you out with that inflammation issue.

stay cryptic :) Annex

I've totally been there. PRO tip: Scotch if you want to drink. Scotch is the only liquor that doesn't process as sugar in the body. If you're eliminating sugar... scotchy scotch scotch down in your belly is mm'mm' good.

And personally.....

Scotch is a grain alcohol made from wheat or barley, which get me very sick. lol I'm limited in more ways than one.

Elle, I watched this yesterday and thought it may resonate with your right now. I haven't stopped yet. It's not just the alcohol for me, it's a few different habits that constantly keep me from feeling the best I can.

Keep going. You're an inspiration.

Mmm sake and frozen blueberries are my new thing lol 😁😍

Lookin pretty thin there!

This is a totally great opportunity to drop an apropos South Park knowledge bomb:
