International Food Tasting 2017 event in Kathmandu, Nepal
Last Saturday, I attended International Food Tasting 2017, an event organized by Academy of Culinary Arts and Hotel Management, one of the best colleges for Hotel Management in Nepal. It was organized on the special occasion of the 7th anniversary of the college. It started on 10th June and it'll last for three months. This event happens every Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm inside the college premises.
In the event, there were different delicacies(with live cooking stations) themed on different parts of the world. There were foods from 5 different countries: France, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Italy and Thailand.
We had to buy ticket worth Rs 250 (equivalent to $25) and we could taste a cuisine each from 5 different countries. The idea of the event was very interesting to me because we got to taste different cuisines at once that too, watching the chefs cook live. The organizers were very welcoming; it honestly felt very good to see such humble people around.
The Venue
That's where we had to get our tickets.
We got two tickets, Rs 250 each.
There were these beautiful people standing there to welcome the guests. Very hospitable!
Too beautiful not to capture
We were welcomed with a glass of very delicious mango juice.
Then, we went up for the food tasting.
So, he was our guide there. A very sweet person.
French Cuisine
There were varieties of appetizers, main courses and desserts.
Chefs preparing foods
I am a big fan of chocolates so without any second thought I ordered Chocolate Mousse. And it tasted quite good.
And my friend ordered Lamb Navarin. She had never tasted lamb before because people here don't usually eat lambs. She said she liked it.
Arabic Cuisine
BlurIt looked very pretty.
Most of the dishes there were non-vegetarian and I am a vegetarian so, I had very few choices. So, I decided to go for Chickpea Falafel and my friend chose Shawarma.
There were a lot of people. At times, I got separated from my friend and it was very difficult to find each other. :D
Mexican Cuisine
Those dishes had very difficult names. I couldn't even pronounce many of those.
Chimichanga
I decided to eat this one the moment I saw this because it looked cheesy and I love cheese.
I actually forgot its name, I guess it was Enchilada. That thing on the plate with corn and mango was my favorite among all.
Italian Cuisine
Not a very big fan of Pasta and noodles, so I had to find something else to taste.
I am a pizza lover and there's no chance I would miss it.
Preparing noodles
My friend decided to taste Vegetarian Lasagna.
The mini pizza was made "tinier"; I was very disappointed. :(
Thai cuisine
I didn't find Thai Cuisine very interesting because two dishes there had rice, which I eat daily. Most of the dishes were non vegetarian so, I had only two choices.
It looked beautiful.
There were Thai Chicken Green Curry and Thai Chicken Red Curry.
This is what my friend tasted, Chicken Satay.
And I ate this Thai dessert, Banana Fritter. It was too sweet, very difficult to eat it all.
After tasting different cuisines, the guide showed us around.
A room where students have practical sessions as a part of Hotel Management
At the end was some time for beverages.
We had to pay separately for this though. Do read that sentence at the bottom. :D
We ordered hot chocolate and got complementary cookies with it. I couldn't finish it because I already had too much sweet.
