First Art Classes from Home

Hello everyone!

How are you doing?

First off, I want to clarify if you follow me that my last post was a joke, 3 reasons why perhaps, a non-Steemian would be resistant to join this wonderful platform :)

Of course I love earning on my posts, I wouldn’t have it any other way. However, I have been thinking critically about social media in general.

One of the things I like the most about Steem is that I feel free to blog when I want to and no one will hold it against me if I stop for a while. It’s hard to explain but I noticed that people won’t unfollow you because you kept quiet for a while. It is a feeling of trust that can only be attained with meaningful relationships.

One thing I wish would improve is engagement, I could use more meaningful comments but I really value and appreciate the interactions I have with other Steemians.

On the other hand, people discover my posts on Facebook and comment there which sends me over the moon every time.

I think discord is really difficult for me to participate in for some reason. I have fun there sometimes and it is invaluable to this community but other times I feel out of place or I don’t have the patience.

Appics is changing the landscape fast, it’s a breath of fresh air but it also reminds me of some of the problems I have with Instagram. It can be very reductive to try to create a narrative out of one’s life and to give an illusion of order in the chaos that is society. Exhausting really.

Right now I am watching Terrace House on Netflix, a very slow dating reality show. We all know that Japan is a patriarchal society but the hosts, who take over for 3 comment sections through the show, do a good job holding all the contestants accountable for their actions, male or female. That being said, it is obvious that the women of Terrace House end up being the punch line of jokes a lot more often then their male counter parts. Of course, I wish it all was more LGBTQ friendly and I would strangely trust the hosts (all but one) to do justice to a more diverse season with a lot of research of course. I am curious because this discussion panel has overtly mentioned being watched by a western audience which is obvious being on Netflix. One of the hosts is terribly misogynistic, I am sure it would blow up his twitter.

I love how Japanese sounds. It soothes me.

Lastly, I have recently began teaching art from home. Right now I have 4 boys who come in pairs.

This boy and his brother are working on an abstract series, perfecting a technique, loading the brush with different colors.

The results are exquisitely ethereal and reminiscent of mountains and corals. I hope to make a post about it later.

I drew this in class from a book by George Fertig my student Moana gave me for X-Mas using colored pencils.

I made a live demo of my hand, they didn’t take me on for this assignment but paid attention to the lesson.

A great comic book style alien villain here, I love how the multiple arms are coming off the back of the character. The legs are very dynamic, I am impressed.

The other pair of kids was willing to draw my hands. You can see how I tried to explain foreshortening with the ring and pinky fingers.

Tobi of the Akatsuki is a popular one. I can bond over Naruto with this amazing artist.

Now this is just adorable, the video game sample is just the best!
