The Story behind a Six Word Story - Sheep on the Farm

in #ecotrain7 years ago (edited)

As I continue to use @moneyinfant's guide to writing contest's to find interesting challenges from all across the steem blockchain, I am sometimes surprised by what I find myself up to. Such is the case with @anjkara's Six Word Story Contest; I spent a very long time considering different topics and then even longer considering each of the words, and two especially.

With only six words, the image that one uses is very important. So I set off to take the perfect picture for my story. My six word story, which included sheep, as in plural animals. Luckily I have just the two up on the farm.

Feeling each other up

And so began our photo shoot! I had taken Nube, our female sheep, to a grassy knoll area with a view of town. Our job: to get the perfect shot for the following story:

Above dazed town, sheep graze unphased.

This shot showed the town perfectly, but the sheep were not grazing, in fact they were cuddling! How rude! But I let them know what was up, and we got back to the important task at hand.

My! What big ears you have!

So, even thought I let them know what's what, I am not totally convinced that adult sheep pay very much attention to me. They do seem to follow my lead, and really like eating grasses in my direct vicinity, so I tried to use that to our advantage. Chip (pronounced like 'sheep' in spanish) is Nube's son, born December 29th of last year, is very gregarious and quite the personality.

Am I doing this right?

I continued to take pictures as Chip struggled to focus on the mission at hand. I too have struggled with focus in my life, especially as a child, so I could hardly stay angry at this loveable animal.

Are you eating your vegetables.jpg
Eat your vegetables!

After a scolding from Mom, Chip got down to looking down at what's for dinner. Because of our refusal to use poisons such as roundup, our grassy knoll contains many different types of grasses and herbs, and one of the things that I love is to watch what the sheep eat; what they eat first and then what they come back for later.

Finally they are both eating!

After quite the long photo shoot I finally had a picture of both of the sheep grazing on grass at the same time. But was it the best picture? I didn't think so. Did the sheep seem unphased enough to really sell the six word story? Although unclear, it is my firm belief that when you think you have the shot, get a dozen or two more just in case.

is that yuca.jpg
Wait a second, is that yuca?

Yuca, also called mantioc or cassava is a very handy plant for all sorts of things. The tubers are starchy and used in all the same ways as potatoes, as well as being the origin of the tapioca in tapioca pudding. The leaves are perfect for covering injuries and for feeding herbivores, including sheep! Our Nube gets very excited to find some yuca leaves that she can reach, and will usually snack on these first if she notices them.

Finally, our final shot. It was a very nice time spent with our sheep, and overall a very lovely afternoon.

Hop on!

Blessings to All!

@ecoinstant,

All's well that ends well. The last one's pretty good. After all that, though, I hope it's a pretty substantial prize. :-)

I'm trying to pump this post and was wondering if you'd help out in whatever way you can. Upvote, comment, resteem, etc.

It's personal. You'll see why.

Great story Eco. I couldn't read the backstory until after the competition (slightly more than 6 words lol). What a lovely, delightful, funny and informative romp with your sheep. Love the images too. Thank you :D
