"SACCHARINEDRIP" - Modular Ambient Composition
This is probably my favorite of my ambient compositions, and while I haven't been exploring super longform melody structures in my ambient writing of late, I think it's high time to reinvest. This piece was composed on my smaller modular rig and performed in one pass as the sun set, pretty majestically. These sort of timbres just appear given the right setting.
Musically, this is extremely informed by the work of R. Beny, one of my favorite youtube modular synth follows. Cannot recommend checking his stuff out enough:
Repeated deep dives disecting both his compositional and patching approach led to a series of stabs at this sort of loping, eight bar over twelve long bar sequences ... a technique I will be revisiting in my next batch of compositions. He is also a strong proponent of the Mangrove oscillator and Clouds granular reverb combo, which is one of the most compelling reasons to be in the eurorack format.
