Satisfaction Vs Success

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Success looks different to everyone, some people judge it by money, others by health, or friends, the number of degrees that you have to your name, or maybe the work experience you've earned throughout your life.

Success in life is subjective and it gets measured by others, so if we base our own personal value on that and our contentment in life, we are at risk of losing our happiness when things change and go in another direction. It can leave us feeling worthless and causing us to refrain from enjoying our lives; we shouldn't give others this much power over our happiness.

Seeking to live a life that leaves you feeling satisfied is better than trying to strive to be successful, because that satisfaction is measured by your own mind; it has nothing to do with anyone else.

We don't need to allow the standards that others set for themselves and for others, to keep us from enjoying our life and living it to the fullest. Satisfaction looks different to everyone and when you strive to live for and only please others, you neglect to be true to yourself and you are likely to end up with nothing but regret and disappointment.

The saying is old and true, that money doesn't make you happy, for there are many wealthy people who still experience suffering, loss, discontent, anger, frustration, money doesn't get rid of all of your problems. If you are only going to measure your content in life and overall satisfaction by the amount of dollars that you have in your bank account, or by the job that you have, or the friends that you keep, then you're doing yourself a disservice because those things can easily fade away.

You don't need to evaluate your life by the standards of others, to determine if you should be happy with your life or not, and when you start to move away from that pressure, you can experience true freedom and true satisfaction that speaks to your own heart and mind.

Theoretically it is possible to have both success and satisfaction but in practice, if you achieve success you may look at those more successful than you and find your situation wanting! Interesting article, thanks 🙏🏽

how you judge your own satisfaction would determine what you consider 'success' ✌

Well said @doitvoluntarily, success is such a personal thing and to me success is a kind and giving person who has found the secret to a happy contented life. Let us all be a good force in this world.

With so much technology we should have ended people suffering to live/survive.

But, we haven't.
What we have made is an extreme have & have-not.
Those who have the knowledge and ability to use technology and those who don't.

How many people could be put out into the open prairie with a windmill water pump and could get running water?

Like that, much of our technology makes those who can use super-men compared to people in africa who carry water in jugs, on their heads, for miles.

And govern-cement schools do their bests to make sure that people never get into the haves class of people.

This ends up with a people that can see people succeeding, but can't understand why. What is the difference? How can they get there?

Most people don't even know accounting, and they look at great business entrepreneurs and wish they were them.

@doitvoluntarily Hello dear friend, I share your words, I spent almost all my life working under dependency in search of success, on certain occasions I have succeeded, but they were the least happy moments.

Now I live on what I generate on the web, I am far from successful, but I am very happy.
I wish you a wonderful day
