Man Claims Cannabis Edible Made Him Commit Murder

in #cannabis6 years ago (edited)

Did the edibles make him do it?

A father of 3 who is currently serving 30 years behind bars after being convicted of shooting his wife in 2014, is speaking out now and he says that it was a cannabis edible that made him do it.

“I didn’t know it was my wife,...I thought it was somebody else, I guess. That’s the only way I could have done it.” he claims.

He is now reportedly suggesting that more research is needed on edibles and says he thinks it can (and did in his case) trigger psychosis. There has been a great deal of media coverage lately reiterating the same message, perpetuating the same concern surrounding edibles.

There are some researchers who have alleged the same worries, citing studies which have also proposed the same concerns, about cannabis sparking psychiatric problems, suggesting they are more toxic than inhaling the plant.

However, other research in this area has suggested otherwise, with recent studies concluding that cannabis might be useful in treating psychosis.

Another common concern is that cannabis use might lead to schizophrenia, but researchers have also negated that myth too. After studying families with a history of schizophrenia compared to those without, they concluded that there was little connection between schizophrenia and cannabis.

A study from the University of York in 2017 also concluded that the risk of psychosis from cannabis might be much lower than they had originally thought it would be. This adds to other studies which had concluded the same, finding no link between the two. Other research in this area also suggests that CBD might have antipsychotic properties. Legal cannabis has also been seen to reduce violence.

Still, there are many health experts today who maintain that the link between cannabis and psychosis is real. They continue to be met with criticism however, from other experts working in the same field who allege that there is still no evidence to show that cannabis causes mental illness.

This is a video that should be seen it is clear that Pharma has a vested interest in cannabis. How interesting that there is a tiny group of people shaping the future of cannabis for the rest of the world.

I laughed out loud scrolling through my feed!

Great article. I love that you always cite other sources.

Also, even knowing insane individuals, I find it hard to believe "the weed made me do it". Plus, his argument quoted was pretty weak, "I must not have known it was her...." So, ya going around killing other folk? D'fuck. Lol!

That guy needs to watch his mouth. 99.9% of people who consume cannabis edibles never murder anyone. I think it was mostly him that did it, and he's just using the "drug" as a scapegoat.

Unless it was spiked with bath salts um, hell to the no

All I can say is "Nooo!"
Lol. He is such a liar....

I also find it hard to believe that "weed made him do it". But i guess we will never truly know.

To each their own I believe.. like how some people are much much better at "handling their alcohol" than others.. be careful with everything.

Sounds to me like it was an accidental shooting. Apparently they were having marital, and financial problems, that, I would bet he's downplaying. Says here,

"Kirk denied accusations that escalating marital conflicts and financial struggles could have been motives for murder..."

...and here

"Twelve minutes into the call, the detective said she panicked and told the operator “I don’t know what my husband is going to do.”

She says “‘my husband had marijuana.’ And then you hear her scream, ‘Don’t go in there! Stay away from the gun! Stop! Stop!'”
By that point police still had not arrived. Wisgaard said Kristine Kirk’s screaming and running could be heard followed by the fatal gunshot."

Lots of stress CAN cause all sorts of psychological issues. My guess is he was attempting to treat this stress with the edibles, of which he had a very small amount, had a stress induced psychotic break, he went to get his gun to harm himself, there was a struggle over the gun when his wife tried to stop him, and he accidentally shot her in the struggle. Him being in the state of mind he was, it's probably a big blur, so he's blaming the edible which had very little to do with his state of mind giving the insignificant amount he had in his system.
