Domino's Embraces Robot Delivery In Houston Coming Later This Year

in #pizza5 years ago

If you live in the Houston, Texas area, then you might get to soon experience Domino's robot delivery. The pizza company is teaming up with Nuro to launch their driverless pizza program, which will include having self-driving vehicles bring the pizza to your location.

They will be restricting this service at first to only a few Domino's locations, and anyone who places an order will be able to track their order online too. They will be able to unlock their pizza from the vehicle once it arrives, a code will be sent to them.

Domino's Pizza has also previously partnered with a drone delivery service to try delivering their pizza by drones back in 2016, partnering with Flirtey--a Nevada-based drone delivery company--to get the task accomplished.

It was a couple from New Zealand who were the first to receive that delivery.

By accomplishing this task Domino's Pizza became the very first company to achieve commercial pizza delivery via drone.

The company has also previously embraced self-driving vehicles in other areas to attempt pizza deliveries, showing on numerous occasions that they are eager to try and incorporate new technology into their business so that they can improve their pizza service overall.

“For our stores, the vehicles could be most valuable during busy ordering times, when having an additional delivery option could be operationally impactful. We would expect that once the vehicles are more of a market reality, stores could choose to use a mix of traditional deliveries with a driver, and unmanned vehicle deliveries, depending on the preferences of the customer,” K. Vasconi, Domino’s executive vice president and chief information officer.

The company believes that this is going to make a big difference in helping stores on busy nights by assisting with easing those delivery rushes. It's going to give those running the business, and those looking to buy the goods, more market options. Those in Houston who are eager to try the new experiment will be able to test it out later this year.

This is interesting to see this happen in a major city.
I'll like to have this in my country to take away some of the hazzards brought about by the delivery people on their scooters.

do they not have this delivery option yet? for any business?

No but I read about testing going on and there is a test delivery station I saw but never seen any drone coming though my friend said she saw one time the drone coming with people testing at that station.

At least I guess you dont have to tip them LOL

Damn, this would be interesting! 😎
