NEW LIFE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST – BABY FACE

Today I discovered this neat contest run by @derangedvisions. The theme is NEW LIFE.

It has been quite a while since I did any portrait photography, but a search of an external drive came up with this oldie from 2003! My great-niece (the baby) is now 15. I photographed some close-ups (what we called back then “baby parts”) for a black and white collage I put together as a gift for her parents. I know that it's preferred that you shoot new work for this contest, but I recreated this black and white from scratch from the original image, because the tools for converting to black and white are so much better now!

I was a bit of a pioneer in the digital photography realm in 2001 with my Canon D30 DSLR which cost almost $4,000! Most of my peers had not accepted digital, and cameras were still way too expensive for the average person to buy! Who would have thought that I would one day own a mobile phone with larger image sizes than that camera had!

It was Canon's first completely theirs digital camera. Before that they had created a couple of cameras under contract with Kodak.

Until the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, I have upgraded each time a new digital Canon version came out, but now I don't feel the need to upgrade just yet, although there are features on the Mark III and Mark IV that would be nice to have. The reality is that the camera I have has reached and exceeds the quality that the stock agencies require, so I plan to spend my money on new lenses instead for the time being!
