Scotland's Most Iconic Castle

I'm throwing in a world famous castle - Scotland's iconic 13th century Eilean Donan Castle, with this #bridgesofthe world entry! I hope you will enjoy it!

The castle sits on an island where three Scottish lochs, Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long meet, and has been connected by a footbridge to the mainland since the castle was restored in between 1911 and 1932.

I photographed this image on one of my visits back in 2004, so it was photographed with an old digital camera, a Canon 10D.

Before Brooklyn NY was conceived ha ha.

It’s pretty much rebuilt though. It was a ruin until the beginning of the 20th century.

Spectacular place

It sure is. It’s awesome lit up ar night.

Beautiful!

Love the old stone bridge Diane. Aesthetically pleasing and so connected to the earth.

If there is one thing that would really attract me to Scotland, apart from the highlands, it would be the old stone buildings and bridges ~ And the sacred stone sites.

Beautifully photographed. Resteemed to remind me to capture some of Sydney's sandstone buildings sometime. 🦋

Thanks! I love all the old building in Scotland too The most fascinating are the Pictish brochs. I must write a post about them some day.

I haven't heard of the Pictish brochs Diane. So PLEASE do.

Amazing isn't it that once you start sharing images and impressions here at Steemit there are always so many more things you think of to share? 🦋

I know. Lol. Not enough hours in the day to do everything!

Hi Bella, Scotland has a great history and beautiful castles, I think, since I have not had the pleasure of living them,
Happy Friday

Oh, yes. Scotland is so rich in history, and there are many many castles of all sizes!

Beautiful! This castle is close to my heart, but I haven't visited yet. My ancestors were the Macrae clan, defenders of this castle and of the Mackenzie family. The history is rich and deep.... I feel like this castle calles to me to visit, and its said to be haunted too! (as most castles are i presume)

Gorgeous! Such vibrant blues and greens with the backdrop of the mountains... I want to walk across the bridge and explore the castle! :)

Thanks! Yes, it is worth exploring!

Beautiful photo! It's amazing for me to see... there is really nothing on this continent of that age. Followed :)

Not quite, but we do have St. Augustine here in Florida founded in 1565 by the Spaniards. It’s the oldest city in the US. 😊
