Original Illustration: "Mickey Bond" by Dirk Hooper
This is a quick illustration I did for an article that asked whether Disney should buy the James Bond franchise.
Last year I developed this style that allows me to put out a full-color piece in a short period of time.
My usual method is to start by pencil, pen and ink, then scanning that piece into the computer and adding digital color.
This method is to do the entire piece digitally. I start by doing a quick sketch of what I want, then laying down color FIRST, and finally, to place line-work on top of the piece to define it.
What I end up with is a very quick and highly expressive editorial style that has eluded me forever.
I "discovered" this style by playing "Draw with Friends" on my phone. I needed a quick way to do complex ideas, and this method worked!
The best thing about doing art this way is that it's pure fun. I really enjoy this process. And I probably produce more art because I know I can finish it quickly. (My more in-depth pieces take hours or days.)
