The Odd Tram
The Odd Tram
I waved at the tram,
As it went passing by
Around three in the afternoon.
It was such a beauty,
With its pumpkin yellow color
And its oddly shaped trunk.
Wonder why it didn't trip?
Traveling this steep narrow road,
That's a mystery to me.
I said bye and thanks,
See you again same time
I'll be by the porch.
Today's daily drawing is again inspired by another feed on my IG social media account. It is a charming photo of a tram taken in Lisboa. I think that is the local term for Lisbon in Portugal. This drawing shown in here is my own version of that tram. I decided to use the tram's original colors which are white and golden yellow. I think I was drawn by the simplicity and boldness of the image and its colors and made me pick it out of the multitude of photos flooding my feed. How can I ignore its interesting shape? Taking a quick glance, I thought the tram was reclining or maybe gliding on a slanted plane?. So I gave it a second glance then I knew that this could be from a hilly place. Hmmm and what better way to travel than a tram which is especially made for this kind of terrain. You just never know what a simple photo can do to inspire. I am still in awe imagining how it would be like riding in a trunk that looks as intriguing as a Lisboa tram. This place is now added to my list of destinations.
The drawing process was rather quicker than I had expected. I did not put too much details on it as I am guided by the thought that a kid is making the drawing. The only details I spent time on are the windows on the tram. That may sound unbelievable but that is the truth. I am using just my bare fingers. Imagine how difficult it would be positioning the rectangular windows and working on a small screen like my smartphone. It was a challenge but I enjoyed it. I must admit that, the potted plant sitting on the window sill is my favorite for some reasons. To achieve the roughness effect on the road, I adjusted the brush to the biggest size possible. That helped me achieved that grainy look of the cobblestone road.
I was fine with the drawing and good to go but then I thought maybe a simple poetry will fit this simple drawing . I want the illustration to appear imperfect and maybe two dimensional just like how a little kid would draw. I then took it from there and composed the poetry from a child's perspective in just a few minutes. I used five words per line to make the composing part of the poetry quicker. That is how this work was processed and came about.
I hope you like it. Thank you for reading.
