Oh the Places You’ll Go - 2020

in #ssglife7 years ago

It is that time of year again. The time of year where other people consider New Year’s resolutions and I think about New Year’s travel plans. 😁 I always feel unsettled until I have some vacations in my back pocket.

This time last year I put together a travel wish list/plan for 2019. How did I do and what is the plan this year? It is time to assess the past and look ahead to plan some adventures!

Where did I think I would go?

Well, it appears I achieved about 50% on my 2019 holiday predictions. Three spots we missed, three spots were visited and two unpredicted spots got thrown in for good measure.

The missed list:

We didn’t make it to Oregon, Chicago, and Arizona

The hit list:

In March we went to California, visiting Disneyland, Oceanside, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and LA.

November found us sipping mai tais with our toes in the sand along the shores of Waikiki.

November also sent us Down Under to Australia to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday.

The unexpected bonuses:

In May we snuck up to Vancouver to see a band and to soak up some southern Canada sunshine. Wouldn’t you know it appears I NEVER posted about this visit. So many cool sites! Will have to add a few to the list for another day.

Another unexpected trip I 2019 - Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore. We arrived in late June and stayed through Independence Day. What a place to celebrate America and see some bands!

So what is on my 2020 list?

February: locked and loaded for Vancouver.

Looking for another Bruin victory north of the border.

We try to get up to Vancouver once every hockey season to see the Vancouver Canucks play the Boston Bruins. We have our tickets for the game and the hotel is booked. Barring some kind of catastrophe or border shenanigans, this trip is a go.

March: Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Sedona and Phoenix.

So we may have missed Arizona in 2019, but we are making up for it in 2020! First it is off to Las Vegas for three nights of music. Then we hit the road in a rental car to explore the Grand Canyon State. I cannot wait.

So what about the rest of the year?

In May or September hoping to go to Disney again. Star Wars land with its two new rides is the big draw. We have been saving Disney gift certificates that my husband occasionally gets awarded through his work. The plan is to use the certificates for a multi day park hopper pass and accommodation at the Disney Grand Californian.

I still really want to get to Oregon. Miles wise it is close, but traffic can be brutal. A four day weekend perhaps? Portland is lovely in the summer, as is the Oregon Coast. I hear Mt. Hood and the Oregon portion Columbia River Gorge are also tops.

Chicago is still on the list. I have seen a lot of the USA, but NONE of the Midwest. This needs to change.

dotoh13cj1.jpg I went to San Francisco at the end of 2017, but my husband hasn’t been since 2011. I can tell he is itching to return, and from Seattle it is an easy and affordable getaway. I could see us heading here sooner vs. later.

xu81ztroxd.jpg For a few years my husband and I were visiting Santa Barbara, California every year. It is a gorgeous seaside town with a Mediterranean climate and impressive Spanish architecture. The last time we visited was also 2017. The Cali coast is calling again.

OK, I know we just went to Honolulu, but it was only two nights. The idea of going back to Hawaii for a week is super appealing. Even more appealing is possibility of visiting one of the other islands, like Maui. I haven’t been to Maui since 1991, but it is another popular fall/winter escape for Seattle folk. My husband has never been and the island is lots of fun. Maybe 2020 will be the year to head back. 😄

As always these plans are part reality and a larger part fantasy. Half the fun for me is in the planning. If the holidays actually happen... even better! 😃

Ahh to get all the way round the world before 50 would be a delight. I want to be rich and retired so I can travel all the time. 😄

In had wanted to visit all 50 states by 50. It is gonna be a BUSY 4.5 years if I am going to reach my goal! 😄

Vancouver? Guess it's old hat to me living 25 kms outside of Vancouver. I got distant relatives in Boston that I'd to visit one day if I can scrape up the cash and tour the USS Constitution.

It’s funny, for years I didn’t go to Vancouver. Now we seem to be up there twice a year between hockey and bands. Seattle is meant to get a hockey team in the next couple of years though so our Vancouver visits might subside.

I am also mildly obsessed with that fast food chain Noodle box. 🤣😂

A great post and lots of travels may your 2020 plans all come to be

Thank you @travelfeed! 🤗 Your platform is cool... but I like to do all my posting from one spot. Since I switch between travel posts and other stuff, I never remember to post through travelfeed when I get around to travel posting.

It's worth it, because you could get higher upvotes if you post through us.

Next one I will do it! 😁 🤗

How often are you actually home? LOL

I am home right now. 🤣😂🤣

If we didn’t have our pooches I think we would travel more. When i retire I want to be one of these oldies who is always on a cruise, bus tour or cross country drive. I definitely love home, but home can also be wherever you unpack your suitcase. 😍

True enough, I love a good jaunt here or there :)

Oh, they are all such great destinations!!!! I love them all and the only one I am remiss in visiting is the Columbia River Gorge. I lived out in the Phoenix for a couple of years, so Las Vegas, Sedona (oh, yes!!!) and of course, the Grand Canyon are amazing, as is the rest of Arizona in the Spring. Those cactuses are amazing in bloom!

Good luck and I just know, wherever you go, whatever you do, it will be so fun!! I am going to Columbia and Panama next month. Ye-haw!

See if I can fit in a few more places while I am there!

Have an amazing 2020!!

!tip

You have the travel bug too! 😍 Columbia and Panama should be a huge adventure. I need to start ticking off some more exotic spots.

I love Arizona. I haven’t been in ages. Sedona, Grand Canyon, and Phoenix used to be stops back during my tour guide years, so over two years I probably went tot all those places plus Vegas and Monument Valley maybe 20 times? But that was 20 years ago now! I am super exited to return. Just wish I had more than a week.
