The Good Thief - "If I don't get my money back by Monday, what I do to both your faces will definitely be cubist."

I cannot stop myself from comparing heist movies with actual masterpieces like the Ocean's trilogy. I try not to do this because each film should be appreciated in its own terms, but when a casino is involved and robbing it seems impossible I cannot help myself and start comparing.

In this film, we have a beaten down robber who is now also an addicted gambler. He is clearly going through a rough time and is trying not to fall apart. His bad luck streak never ends but is confident that at some point this will have to change for the better.

After losing the little money he had left on a risky bet, he starts chatting with a close friend who shares with him important information about a possible job that if executed correctly, could save him from this difficult situation.

Sometimes the dialogue and subtle gestures tried to be quick-witted but it is hard to properly leave this impression using a slow looking actor as the main lead. When he was trying to look like a master in his craft I simply didn't buy the performance, it didn't seem real. This film didn't cause me to experience any thrills or moments of high intensity. It was a little bit fun, nothing more.

I am not saying this actor did a bad job, but in some scenes, it was hard to believe he was really this mastermind behind a perfect plan that seemed almost impossible. The other characters were ok, not top notch but acceptable.

If you really enjoy movies about smart robberies and criminals who outplay their opponents you might enjoy this one. It is not the best in the genre though.

• It provides a little bit of fun.
• Original story but not as sophisticated as it would have liked.

The worst

• The plot wasn't very intriguing, there are better heist movies that are easy to find.
• Some characters weren't very convincing.
