Upvoting someone that constantly powers down?

in #steem6 years ago

It is a bit of a dilemma to me. Many of those who make great material on the Steem blockchain, are also the people that tend to power down consistently. So should I support someone just based on their content, or should I take into account if this person is powering up or down ?

It is a tough question that I have been pondering for quite some time. Because on one side, we need good bloggers on Steem. They help raise awareness to the Steem blockchain, and through their other media outputs they often draw people to Steem and help to spread the word. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for a video I came across on YouTube, where I guy I followed brought up Steem. It sounded too good to be true, but, only due to the fact that I trusted this guy, I decided to give it a try and I never regret that. So having someone, who people trust in, spreading the word, is extremely important. Because even though we are already acclimated to the Steem blockchain where you can actually earn money, as a regular Joe, by posting, commenting, and having fun, most people who hear about Steem for the first time still think it sounds unreal, and most often then not decide to not give it a chance.

However, there is still something deep down inside me, that get bothered by upvoting someone, no matter how good the content is, that is consistently powering down. For me, it makes me feel like they don’t believe in Steem, and that they are not here for the long run, but just for the “free money”. Sure I do understand that many of the people I mention try to make a living on blogging, and why isn’t it fair that if they do something good they should get rewarded?

The reason why I bring it up right now, is because, I think Steem is extremely low. If it was as high as last year I do understand people powering down. But doing so right now, I think goes to show that you don’t have any real belief that Steem has a future. Everyone has the right to power down at any moment, don’t get me wrong. But I am still thinking of Steem as an eco system. We need money flowing in in order to raise the value of Steem and we have to stop the bleeding. For me voting for someone that powers down, basically close to zero, and just wait for new rewards, is a black hole that I want to avoid sending my Steem to.

I don’t have a lot of Steem power, so My vote doesn’t make a big difference. But I still have a voice, and so does everyone on here, and it is as a collective we create the strength. The recent initiatives up powering up I think is great, because in the end the thing that makes the value go down on Steem is when we ourselves loose hope and sell Steem at a price that is so low it doesn’t make sense for me to do so.

Anyways I just wanted to give my 2 cents here and hopefully hear what your thought is on this matter?

A great and thought provoking post, and one I had not really thought of I have bene upvoting based on content and now will have to give it some thought

I might be thinking too much in this case, however, once I started to think of it I can’t really shake it and I just wanted to listen in if someone Thought of it as well

I have plans to look at some of the accounts I regularly upvote, some I may change, others I will keep if they are posting as in one case to support a charity they run, or to survive
