I’m The Luckiest Guy I Know - #fff #50
Trying to prepare this @foodfightfriday contender is difficult—I’m going through all of the recent menu items in my head. ‘Should I show’em the falafel wrap and yalanji we had at the Lebanese restaurant or the fish’n’chips from Flying Squirrel in Leeds, home of The Beatles?’ 🤔 Ooh! I know, the tea and biscuits we had at King’s Cross Station in London, the first temporary passenger station that opened in 1850 where Queen Victoria was amongst the first passengers en route to Scotland—nah... who wants to read about that rubbish? Danget! This is almost as difficult as deciding what table we want to eat at—window, corner, booth, table....
Is there an echo in here? :I’m the luckiest guy I know-õh-o0Oo-ōo-o-oo: It’s nice to be back at kitchen #fff with you, thanks for hanging out with me, happy Friday! Preparing this contender ain’t no joke, though, really—cover images are important. Like Harley’s—looks are 80% of comfort, same goes for a #food cover image, you only get one shot. Here it comes—ready?
Falafel, pickled beets, red cabbage and shredded carrots topped with a spicy mustard and saffron dressing (there’s more). Hummus and house made naan bread (that’s not all), three vine-leaf wrapped, spicy rice-stuffed dolmas (not done yet) and a garden salad topped with banana peppers, tomatoes, green olives, shredded lettuce, a balsamic vinaigrette in fancy swirls and all of the other produce you see in the bowl—all kinds of goodness:
(Still not done) But that’s all I could fit in the picture without standing up in the crowded, elbow to elbow, Persian restaurant in West Yorkshire, UK and making even more of a scene than we already were by trying to make all of that food fit on one table. So, I did what any other seasoned food fighter would’ve done—I took two pictures. :flash: :flash:
Vegetable stew with red lentils, green beans, diced jalapeños and zucchini with a side of fried white rice topped with vinegar and saffron—Bon appetite, lads:
It’s a joint with a five star rating on TripAdvisor out of 909 reviews called Classic Persian Restaurant in Bradford, UK—a city and metropolitan borough. Eh, you know what it takes to maintain five stars out of 909 reviews on any website and this restaurant did not disappoint—delicious! I can’t say enough good things about it, Pura and I didn’t leave anything on the table, in fact, we just ate there last night and I don’t think I’ve completely digested everything yet. Too much? Did I take it too far with that one? You know me—always sugar-coating the #truth. 😉
Dessert isn’t my thing—it never really has been. Pura, however, that’s a different #story. Before we left, she had a slice of baklava topped with minced pistachios and drizzled in honey and, in case you’re wondering, I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve ever used “drizzled” in a sentence.
Can you believe we got all of that food, at a five star restaurant, for 23 pounds (£23)? That’s less than $30 USD with the tip included. You can’t feed two people at an Applebee’s in the states for under 30 bucks. We’ll definitely be going back. Two 👍🏿👍🏿 up!
And, since it doesn’t get dark here until half of 22 (11:30pm), the night was still young bright. We called for an Uber and caught a ride across town, down a few single-lane, cobblestone roads to Junoon.
It looks like a strip joint doesn’t it? Don’t worry, it’s not a strip joint, not that I’m against... never mind—that’s a completely different post. Anywho, 🤔 about the strip joint Hookah lounge! Junoon Café is a hookah lounge in Bradford. Ever been to one? Me either, it was our first time. C’mon, I’ll show you how it goes down.
What happens is, you walk inside this really fancy, night club type atmosphere, hi-tech lighting having joint with purple flowers across the entire ceiling and pick the flavor you want in the water of the hookah you’re about to smoke—it’s kind of like a tobacco but not really. We went with a 50/50 mixture of raspberry and skittles.
I don’t know if it’s customary or not to have tea at any other hookah loung—I doubt it. But, when you’re in England, the country that doesn’t have coffee pots in hotel rooms and instead come furnished with tea kettles—you order fancy yourself to a spot of tea. Skittles and raspberry flavored hookah with a pot of fresh, hot off the oven, jasmine-mint tea:
Same place next week, deal? You know the name of the kitchen—you know the day. All it takes is something food related, it doesn’t get much easier than that. Have a great weekend everyone—cheers, aye!

I don’t know how I’m just now hearing about them. I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, the majority of my foodfights are restaurant reviews—thanks a lot for the heads up, anggereestari. I just clicked their follow button and will be tagging @tasteem now—good lookin out. 👍🏿
Thanks for stopping by @anggreklestari.
I’m even hooked up on discord now.
Lebanese restaurant I eat something like that before here and it's delicious plus you guys smoking hooka lol which flavors? ;)
Hey what’s up cityofstars, how it going man? Yeah, throw me in a Lebanese or Syrian restaurant and I’m good!
We’ve been to only a few hookah lounges now, they’re new to us. I’m learning to stick with grape, I’ve always liked grape—now n laters, jolly ranchers, koolaid, grape was always my favorite. A grape/lemon combo and/or a grape/mint combo have been my favorite so far.
You into hookah? Where are you located? They have lounges where you’re at, too?
Thanks for stopping by @cityofstars.
Double Apples!!
if you are strong man stick with it lmaooo
@dandays, @puravidaville you guys rock. You have traveled half way around world and are still having fun. The food in both pictures look amazing. I got hooked on naan bread last week, it was sooo good. My next adventure in food will be to make some falafels. I loved your travel tales of New York. Thank you guys for your support.
Yes, falafel!!!! 👏👏
You’re very welcome. Thank you for the support! If your naan bread is anything like the pita bread you pictured, I know you wouldn’t get once single piece if I was at your place—your pita bread looked frikkin awesome.
Iheart falafel—“guilty!” There’s quite a few tricks to it, though, I think it’s one of those things that could take a lifetime to master. Everything from the seasoning to the frying time, even the cooling time to the eating time. One mess up and its over cooked/under cooked, etc. But, man! When they’re spot-on—hands down my favorite food.
Thank you for keeping an eye on us, it means a lot.
Thanks for stopping by @paleotwist, have a great weekend. We’ll be catching up again real soon.
Awesome!!! I love reading your accounts of our adventures. It’s okay, you totally could have said that all of the food in the first pic was mine. That’s what Lebanese food is about, family style eating. That hummus though 😋. It’s nice to be in a place that predominantly serves everything we love to eat. I wouldn’t want to do this life with anyone but you, you poop. Lub you “nooo bawdyyyy”.
I figured I’d keep that one offline but since you brought it up.. :attention: Anyone reading this, that cover image is all Pura’s. Just imagine the only blonde chick in a three mile radius, as though she’s blindfolded and randomly pointing at menu items: “2 of those, a side of this.. make it 2 sides, one of these, one of these things for sure, a bowl of that, three of the green spicy things and a glass of water.” ...”And a slice of baklava, too.”
Yeah, but they don’t spell it “hummus,” it’s “homous.” They, as in, “Asians.” That’s crazy we’ve been bred to categorize Asians as middle-easterns—shame on
meusU.S.I sure am glad you appreciate my descriptions and account of events, I’d be lying if I said I don’t get frustrated and have to tame my only child mentality, wanting to blurt out some ish every time I don’t get the.... never mind, there’s that only child thing I was talking about. Eh, but whoever doesn’t appreciate this can’t be trusted—congratulations!
Iheartu all the time beautifulest.
Haha… 🤣🤣🤣🤣. So true! I don’t know what’s wrong with me ? Haha
Your Food Fight Friday Contender has been entered into Round 50
May your contender make it out alive and not be placed in a permanent food coma!
Good Luck
...and I always heard that the food in England was blah, so thank you for smashing that lil' lie!! This all looks delicious, and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if @puravidaville cooked this, it would have been even better :)
I'm so glad to hear that you guys are enjoying the change of plans. And hookah!!! So if it's not tobacco, what exactly is it? There's a cool hookah place here, but Brian and I have only stopped in for beers haha You guys rock :)
Well if it isn’t my favorite Canadian in Mexico! Good morning, Lynn, it’s always nice to hear from you. I’m either 7 or 8 hours ahead of you so my morning is most likely your sleep time. Please tell Brain he’s in our prayers.
Oh, Lynn, it couldn’t be farther from “blah.” I, personally, love “middle-eastern” and “Asian” food. Well, there’s more of that cuisine here than you could imagine. Also, being Europe, you have plenty of French and Italian choices. I love Mexican food, too, you obviously won’t find any of that here but other than that—nah, I give this country a 10 when it comes to food choices. And the prices of everything are almost unreal. You saw the price of that meal, just yesterday, we loaded up on groceries—3 bags, all of the stuff Pura needs (you nailed it!) even specialty items like agave, coffee, dairy free breads, imported apples and stuff. The tab was only £43—about $50. That, my friend, I never would’ve guessed. Literally a $75’ish haul in the states and easily twice that in CR.
Man, I just can’t keep my responses under three minutes. 🤔 Continuing on..
Hookah. Yeah, I’m totally a rookie myself. They’re those big ‘water pipe’ things right with the fancy hoses. The water is the flavored part, you dump your choice flavor in there. On the bowl are these coal-type square block things about twice the size of a sugar cube. They’re just coals, non-tobacco, so you have to turn them frequently and eventually they’re completely ash so the attendants will replace them periodically, with tongs of course.
How’d my description do? I totally understand why they’d be at a bar type joint you mentioned where they serve beer. They’re not something you’d just smoke, I wouldn’t have one at the house or nothing, they’re more of a social thing—something to do really. It’s something you just kinda inhale and exhale while being social with whoever you’re with rather than playing on your phones or whatever. Ya’all should give it a shot, it’s not a bad time.
Thanks a lot for stopping by @lynncoyle1, I always enjoy hearing from you. Can’t you tell? 😉
How on earth did I miss this AMAZING reply?!?! Not long-winded at all; just long-cool :)
OK, I never would have guessed that food would be that inexpensive there? I always had the exact opposite idea in my head for some reason. Good for you guys; sounds waayyyy better than CR!
Best explanation ever of the hookah thang! Now I totally get it. And hell yah; anything to get people of their phones :)
Always always a pleasure to hear from you! Hi to pura too ... obs :)

Thanks for keeping tabs on me @steemitboard. I’ve mentioned several times now and even got a response from you once saying you’d look into it—I never heard back. I posted 7 days in a row, earlier this year, it’s been three months now actually, between this post and this post. I never received my badge.
The whole point of me posting 7 days in a row was for an opportunity at shining qurite and that badge but I never received the badge. If you could help me out and take a look, I’d appreciate it. Thanks for everything you’re doing for the community.
Wow!!!!! Is that really what you're eating? Baklava! Seriously, you poor things, lol Quite a switch-a-roo from your last spot :) So glad to see you're having a smashing time hitting all of the great spots in London! Keep those pictures coming, we all love it! Blessings you two!
I’m the luckie... you know the rest. 😏 Oh man, we’re happy to be out of there, too, what a disappointment. Oh well, God bless’em! And God bless the Birds! Here, lets simplify things—bless us all the same, please. 🙌 Thank you, birdsinparadise.
