Daily Nature Fix: A Pelican Sunset on Yellowstone Lake. (Original Photos)

Hello fellow nature buffs and treasured followers.  Today's Daily Nature Fix is another sunset we were fortunate enough to witness while in Yellowstone National Park.  This time the pale orange sun was going down on the far side of Yellowstone Lake, the largest body of water in the park.  As an added bonus, we had some company: and American white Pelican.

     A really cool bird and one that I'm used to seeing in the coastal areas of the south.  It was surprised to see one here in the middle of the country and after a bit of research, we found they do head inland to breed in colony groups on large bodies of freshwater.  We watched this little fella cruise by us from the shore and at one point he came in pretty close.

       It looked like he needed to pull a comb through his hair maybe, but otherwise it's a beautiful animal.  I was hoping to see it use that crazy trapdoor of a beak, but he didn't appear to be hungry.  We watched as he just slowly, and steadily, swim off into the sunset.  It was a good way to close out the day.  :)
