Story of my 2 years of Backpack Travel

Today's Author Showcase begins with a post that scored a 75% Curie vote and was resteemed on the Curie blog page this week. It is an almost thirteen minute video where we get to meet an interesting young man named Gun. He backpacked around the world for two years.

He talks about his reasons behind the trip, how he prepared for it by taking smaller trips near his home, and then finally the many things that happened on the trip in a quick four minute or so high speed recap. His journey included everything from making money by photographing strippers, to swimming with whale sharks - stabbing himself near the beginning of the journey to being robbed not once, but twice along the way.

At the end of his journey he had an entirely different outlook on life itself.

Go watch his epic adventure, and transformation for yourself.

New Painting! THE POND QUEEN!

Images property of @rachelsvparry

Next up we have a very talented artist @rachelsvparry. She was inspired by a local marshland she had seen while passing by in a car. Pretty sure she added in the Queen on her own. She includes the process photos which she had been sharing throughout the painting.

One of the things I like most about the Steem Blockchain is that users get to see the process photos of so many great artists doing what they do best. Just imagine if back in the day just regular people in the general public could see The Starry Night, The Water Lilly Pond, The Persistence of Memory, or The Scream as they were painted. While we might not be watching Van Gogh, Monet, Dali, or Munch today, we get to see inside the mind and the process of many great artists here on the platform, and it is amazing.

I think my favorite part of @rachelsvparry's painting is the frog.

Go tell her what your favorite part of The Pond Queen is.

Music Monday: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Our next author manages to do something I tried when I first joined the site. They assign a different topic to certain days of the week and then write a post on that day every week about that topic. When I did it, it didn't last. I was always getting sidetracked onto other things. @didic however keeps on schedule for the most part week after week. You can check out their blog page for; Feminism Sundays, Music Mondays, New Books Tuesdays, Wrestling Thursdays, and Film & TV Fridays.

One of the great things about these posts is that even when @didic might not be the biggest fan of the topic, such as this post about the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they still manage to produce a great in-depth and entertaining post.

Go learn all you need to know about the Red Hot Chili Peppers music.

Feeling the Cinema! | Pioneers of cinema "Alice Guy"

We move from music to movies next. Author and aspiring "film pioneer" @zaxan is doing a series of posts titled Feeling the Cinema where he shares a detailed and entertaining history of some film pioneers. This post focuses on early filmmaker and producer Alice Guy. Her filmmaking career began back in 1896 with The Cabbage Fairy in a time where women didn't get to do a whole lot other than stay at home doing what was expected of them by the male population of the time. It is a well-written chronicle of an interesting woman in history.

@zaxan shared the following about himself -

I think I was born in the right place but maybe at the wrong time. I don't just want to write about authors or their history from the cinema, I want to be able to make and build my own cinema. I want all those stories I do as a writer to be seen on the big screen just as I imagine them in my mind every time I write them. Unfortunately I don't have the resources to do this and the few friends I have that I have with teams have left the country, however I know that the day will come when things will start to really take shape and in the future I may perhaps be a "cinema pioneer".

We close out another Author Showcase with some great fiction. This short story comes to us from @thewritersblock Art Prompt Writing Contest. For this contest writers are given a photo which is to be used as the prompt for their short story.

The story comes from author @sidequest who is very active in the #twentyfourhourshortstory, #finishthestory, #freewrite, #fiftywords, and other writing contests here on the Steem Blockchain. Be sure to check out their blog page as they have already written 6 more stories since this one.

When I pointed out that I didn't see the ending of the story coming, @sidequest shared the following -

I didn't exactly see the ending either when I started writing this story, which is a big part of why I love all of the prompts, contests, and challenges people post here. This is such a great place to read and get inspired and write messily and have fun.

As always, I will leave you to read the story for yourself now.

Go and enjoy Hidden by @sidequest.
