Dear Diary: Our New Tap Water Source Makes My Skin Itchy Because Of Its Strong Chlorine

Our water district tap water source had been sourcing water from another system so in turn the chlorine concentration had gotten very bad. I am certain that it is really clean now because of the strong chlorine concentration of the water.

I had emailed the general manager already and he told me that the water source in our zone is different now which is coming from another system which really made the quality of the water very different and that the chlorine concentration is within the normal levels which in fact is safe to drink.

Regarding your concern on strong concentration of chlorine, please be informed that based on the report being monitored by this office, the chlorine residual from the pipeline in your area is at 0.60ppm on the average. It is within the parameters of 0.3 - 1.5 ppm set by the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW). This means that if chlorine residual from the tap of the consumer is within the said parameter, the water is safe from any contaminants and it is safe to drink. Nevertheless, rest assured that this office will coordinate your concern with our Bulacan bulk water supplier for a possible little reduction of concentration.

Please be informed also that since June 19, 2019, the supply of water to Metro San Marcos (including Balite) is already sourced from the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project (BBWSP). It was energized on June 18, 2019 @ around 3:00 pm.

But as I was using the water to rinse my mouth the water really is nauseating because of the chlorine. I do not know if they are just trying to clean the water pipes and that they will adjust it soon but we are not only in this household are complaining about it but also most of the people that uses our new tap water.

In a way that is good to have a bit of chlorine but I do not think that if our own body sense are rejecting what we can potentially put in it then it is better to listen to our bodies and reject anything that our bodies doesn't want.

That is why we and most of the people are patronizing the water purification stations that sells purified water which is way much safer because of much lesser contaminants than any other water source from nature and from the tap water system.

Now I am not changing my diet and I do not think that the cause of my itching skin was from my food but I suspect that it has something to do with our tap water system so it is a problem now for me thta I have to find a solution because an itching skin is a big deal, it is uncomfortable and damaging for my overall health.
