Dear Diary: My Phosphate Binder Gives Me Liberty To Eat Without Feeling Some Guilt

It is a hard situation having a strict diet and food as it seems to a poison for me if I do not look out and be vigilant on what I eat. My Phosphate binder helps and is an essential part of my diet now.

What does a phosphate binder do?

Phosphate binder like the name tells binds phosphates (phosphorus) from the foods that I eat so that my guts would not absorb it.

I was a victim of my own poverty situation and with that I wasn't able to take phosphate binders nor I was informed in using it. I wasn't also prescribed in taking "Renvela"(phospate binder) so my Phosphorus level went unchecked and it is all those years are high.

Well it caused my parathyroid to get hyperactive in response to balancing the phosphorus-calcium level in my blood. So my bones leached-out calcium to my bloodstream thereby effectively weakening my bones.

So I developed a rare form of bone disease that is called "Leontiasis Ossea" which made my appearance like so and it made my backbone collapse, gave me a lot of pain, disfigured my body which shortened my stature and especially my facial bone and the bones benenea the the gums which lead to my speech and speech impediment.

The cause was a hypephosphataemia (high phosphorus in the body) so I am just so watchful about what I eat ever since I learned about it all by myself.

It might be too late for me since changes are happened to my body physically but at least most of my pains are gone and my facial bone growth stopped, it actually receded s little so with that I am thankful To God and of course my friends here at steem which is helping me to afford my medicine for it which is not so cheap and also hard to endure as it affects my appetite.

I hope soon I will get the parathyroidectomy surgery so that I will never have to take this (Cinacalcet) which is also a cause of my misery. Meanwhile I will still take it because I needed to and also my Renvela because it is needed as well and is very important so that my Parathyroid won't get overstimulated. I needed more prayers.
