I lost my keys to @coolj because my phone's memory card got corrupted and wiped out all my data, documents. So after long vain trial to recover it, I was adviced to open a new account and continue from where I stopped.

The aim is to help us have basic knowledge of security on Steem, noting the different keys used in maintaining the security and their different functions as well as how to keep them safe. This post will also help us to understand the use of Steemit wallet and some actions that can be performed on the Steemit wallets.

Security simply means, protection, or an act of being safe from danger. In our everyday activities, we always try as much as we can to stay away from danger starting from what we eat, what we say, what we do, where we go, who we go with and the list continues. Security does not just imply our livess, it also extends to our assets both our financial assets and our other properties. It is because of security that we dont display our ATM Pins and cards to any third party or third party sites to avoid hacks, fraud and thefts. People in cryptocurrency full time will agree with me that once you expose your wallets or rather, loose guard on security, your funds will be gone.
Steemit has made it easier for us by providing five different padlocks with differe functions on Steem.

• Master Password: This is the first key you got during sign up on Steem. Like name applies, it is really the master key and can be used to generate all other keys for your Steemit account including the owner key. It can also be used when recovering your account. Once lost, your account is will be lost. No one should have access to your master password to avoid stealing your funds.

• Posting Key: The posting key is used for voting, commenting on posts, upvote, resteem, follow and mute an account.

• Active key: This key is used for more sensitive tasks like sending funds, powering up/down transactions, converting Steem dollars, voting and updating profile details.

• Owner key: The owner key is used when needed. It is a very powerful key because it can change an account's key. It needs to be stored offline and used when needed. It can also be used to recover a compromised account.

• Memo key: The memo the memo keys are used for encrypting and decrypting memos when tranfering funds.

Like they say, once bitten, twice shy. If i had secured my keys in the previous account offline, i wouldnt have lost the account. But i know better now. I have stored my keys both on my google drive and offline. Offline, by writing them down im my special diary know only to me, my hubby and my daughter incase of any eventuality. Yes I do. All i need is to simply log in to my account using my active key, click on the avatar at the top right side of my account, select wallet. Once in my wallet, click on the drop down arrow beside the steem tokes, then select transfer. On the spaces provided, I will enter the name of the receiver followed by the amount of Steem tokens i want to transfer then select *next* On the final page, enter my memo key and then click OK button and thats it.

Yes I know to power up by simply taking the following steps; First step is to log in to my account using my active key, go to my wallet, confirm if i have some steem in my wallet. If confirmed yes, then click kn the drop down button beside my steem tokens then select Power-up. On the spaces provided, enter the amount of Steem I want to convert and then click on power-up. On the confirmation page, enter my active key and click OK. It is done Power-up simply means to convert Steem token to Steem dollars used for up voting et al.
