Needles and a Haystack

I had planned to grill out today and post photos of that for #foodfightfriday since @sivehead has challenged me to participate. Mother Nature had other plans and I've been dealing with golf ball sized hail, flash flood warnings, and tornado watches today instead of grilling. Oh well, there's always next Friday.

In other news, I found out today that I'm one of the contenders for @photocircle's Hall of Fame so I've been wandering around singing about "the thrill that'll gitcha when you get your picture on the cover of the Hall of Fame" and listening to Dr. Hook's much better original version. Now for the daily photo! This was taken one cool morning near Cannon Beach, Oregon as the tide was going back out and the sun was just starting to burn off the morning fog. That is Haystack Rock attempting to hide in the mists, which is part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge. If the tourists don't scare'em off it is a great place to see a bunch of sea birds and is something of an icon for the area (apparently it made an appearance in the Goonies movie). The rocks around it are collectively known as the Needles, hence the title of this post.
