The Christmas celebration throws up many special and unique activities in the village. Natives return from far and near with their families and inject life into it. It affords natives the opportunity of seeing many others they have not seen for a long time in the past. People dress beautifully, visitations are made, football matches are organized between villages, so are carnivals, hunting expeditions by the youths, etc.

The last is usually not very common but anyone who has witnessed its outcome, will have lasting memories about it. For one thing, it provides meat other than the normal chicken eaten at Christmas. The youths organize themselves and go to hunt in the traditional farmlands faraway from the village. They usually go to the bushy farm areas not cultivated in the year as farmers practise shifting cultivation for reasons of letting the land get fertile for food production and making the farmers farm in the same area in the year to avoid possible attacks by wild animals.

As the season of the year is usually harmattan, the youths set fires to a particular bush and deploy themselves around it. As the animals try to escape for safety, they are hunted down by the agile youths. At the end of the exercise, the youths are rewarded with many games (small animals) they kill. These usually include, Rabbits, Cutting grasses, Porcupines, etc.

When the youths return, they display on bare ground, the carcasses of these unfortunate animals to roast them and share. They loudly recount their escapades at hunting the animals down over puns and laughs.

As they were doing this on the evening of last year's 30th December in our compound, our cock that had been busy outside the compound with its many hen-wives was returning to roost. Sighting the many dead animals that lay on the ground, it quickly stopped and quietly raised its head maybe, to see more clearly.

Convincing itself that all was not well,it turned back and went to another compound to roost. Apparently, its numerous hen-wives welcomed it but the owners of the compound did not lest they be accused of stealing it.

When the woman of the house went to lock up where the chickens roost, she discovered that the cock was missing. She went to search for it and one neighbour said they saw a strange cock in their house and drove it away. However, the cock returned the next day after the scenario it perceived as threat to its life was no more! That was our wise beautiful cock.
