Greetings from the sky!
Flying. It’s wondrous to think about how in the world we can be up above the earth in a metal bird just cruising along like we do everyday in our cars. The difference? The opportunity to embrace the peace that the precarious situation of flying presents us with.
Up in the air it’s quiet, serene, remarkable. We are not rushing to the next errand or swerving out of someone’s way or stressed about possibly being late for something or other due to traffic. Nope. We are just sitting up in the air among the clouds. As long as you are not connected to the in-flight internet and you have headphones on to at least pretend like you are listening to something so your neighbor won’t bug you, it is possible to find peace and get lost in the ever changing view from above.
I don’t know about you, but for me, flying is like a mini retreat and coveted me-time. Incomparable breath taking views, delightful books to catch up on, music playlists I choose, or even watching downloaded binge worthy Netflix.
There are no phone buzzes with demanding emails, or texts comprised of emojis. There are no back to back conference calls, no laundry that needs folding or putting away just down the stairs, no animal hair tumbleweeds to be vacuumed, or overdue dusting daring us to swipe a finger through. Flying. It’s delightful, disconnected, and perhaps even blissful.
Flying, even though it’s 95% of the time for work in my case, is something I find I look forward to and enjoy. It’s also something I never in a million years thought I would find joy in.
Once upon a time I was one of those severely nervous flyers. I would shake and sweat, grip the seat for dear life and lose sleep for days before a flight in anticipation of the sensation of take off and thinking about just hanging out up in the air with no escape and no control.
I eventually found a magical prescription that at least allowed me to ease my nerves, but it also somewhat incapacitated me for a bit. Then, one day, I found my peace and I just didn’t need a crutch anymore. I no longer had a “fear of flying”, I had a LOVE for flying. It was like a switch that just turned on. It still shocks me. If there is any degree more dramatic than 180, it is that.
I found my peace, I let go and got out of my own way, and ever since I take the opportunity to be grateful for what it provides and embrace my peace.
These are some of my recent “peace” shots.
I never had a fear of flying, but I also find it to be very peaceful - especially with noise cancelling headphones. And also as long as the flight is less than 4 hours, after the 4 hour mark I feel that I have a need to get up and move around, even if it's just to make another connecting flight.
Yes, the long ones CAN be a bit much, and the short ones are also not quite long enough to find your peace.
Excellent piece...peace!
Thank you! Peace.

I also enjoy flying, yes the views are nice and it’s great to unplug, but for me...it usually means I’m about to arrive somewhere new and amazing!

Thank you!
Awesome read! Thanks for sharing this. I totally agree with you. Flying is my time to just be totally out of contact and I love that feeling, of not being constantly in demand. I'm going to be blogging about it soon actually! Also I never used to be afraid of flying.. but now i'm getting more scared as time goes on. Any tips?
Yes! Grab some Rescue Remedy at your local co-op or Whole Foods. You can take it as often as needed and it totally helps chill you out. So does Kava, I like the liquid maple syrup flavor. You can take a dose of that as you board and it will also mellow you down. :)
Ok really good to know. I will try these things. Thanks for getting back to me!

I agree! I get caught up in life and sometimes forget, but every time I take a minute and connect back with what’s right in front of me, I find peace.
Yeah! We should definitely learn to slow down our pace, and take a deep breath with refreshing energy to stay positive as usual!
