Uniting Self: Past, Present, and Future

This is a picture I drew of my friend, @anwenbaumeister. Featured is her older self, meditating on top of Mt. Tamalpais, sending courage, protection, wisdom, and perspective to Anwen today.

For me, the practice of connecting with Self across the continuum of life experience has helped me to:

Confront the unknown

Work through intense emotions and traumas

Trust myself

Bring perspective to the current situation at hand

Recognize my life path and surrender control

Below is a guided meditation I have written, inviting Self to connect with past, present, and future. This being my first guided meditation to share on the web, I would love all of your constructive feedback. Incorporating your feedback, I will post the guided meditation video on Steemit in the coming days. Thank you all for helping to make this platform a space for collaboration and learning!

Today, we will go on a journey to connect with our inner child and our wiser self

In seeking our own unification, we receive the gentle guidance and unconditional love from one’s whole being

I invite you to find a quiet and safe place to rest, free from distraction

Start by taking a seat or lying down to find a comfortable position

You can close your eyes or keep them open for now

Begin by taking notice of the air around your nostrils-- taking some time to sense the breath at your nose, flowing in and out.

Shift your awareness to your chest.

Connect with the gentle movement of breath, ebbing and flowing within you, sustaining you.

Take notice of the rise, and the fall in your chest with each breath.

Now bringing your focus down to your abdomen.

Place one hand on your belly.

Observe how your abdomen expands and contracts with the breath.

Take some deep breaths, feel them in your belly.

Become aware of where your body meets the floor. From here, deepen your grounding

Arrive here, in this moment. Arrive again.

Let your breath go, flowing naturally

Gently, close your eyes, if you have not already

And now, Imagine a blanket of loving kindness, loosely swaddling your body, anchoring you here.

With gentleness, check in with yourself.

How is your heart today?

Let your heart reveal what it is that you already know.

Free yourself from any judgement or narrative, if only for this moment.

Allow yourself to sit with what you are feeling right here, right now.

And when you are ready, I invite you to take a journey within yourself

With your mind’s eye, imagine a place that makes you feel whole-- a home, a park, a place in nature

Bring yourself here, ground yourself here with breath

When you feel ready, invite your younger self to meet you here

Let them come to you

Feel their presence with you, in this moment

Hold them, in your heart

Let their presence fill you with peace

Together, as one, ask your older self to be known to you

Imagine their loving embrace, enwrapping you, knowing you, loving you

Receive your own wisdom

Remain here in this space.

Recognize where you have come from and where you are going are all one.

Rest in this oneness, in this love, and surrender

Trust this, trust yourself.
