Modern crocodiles are an extant family of species that are a part of a larger "family" which in the past consisted of herbivorous, omnivorous and carnivorous members. The crocodiles are almost 100% carnivorous - but clearly some of their evolutionary relatives had different tastes, according to research. The research was based on fossil remains of their teeth as the shapes of the teeth differ depending on what kind of food these teeth are designed to process.
This is interesting - but hardly surprising. Especially in warm climates cold-blooded animals - especially large ones - need very little caloric intake to survive as they barely need to expend any energy on thermoregulation. Thus eating grass - which, by the way, does not run away, thus no need to expend much energy on pursuing the food - may well be a way to go.

Hey there, I recently read that also some sharks are herbivores.
