Founding of Cleveland

in #steembloggers8 years ago

In 1796, Cleveland was identified and noted by John Heckewelder . Explorers felt Cleveland was a great location due to the waterways it laid on. It is on the Cuyahoga River, Lake Erie and the Ohio River.

The state of Connecticut had the rights to the “Western Reserve” and that is the area where Cleveland resided. In Connecticut the government sold land contracts to the Western Reserve to an investment company called the Connecticut Land Company. Moses Cleaveland had to meet with the Indians to confirm the company’s title to the Western Reserve. They did so without incident.

This location was selected at the time based on its availability to communicate through the use of transportation back East. It’s success was based on the commercial center it could provide. Cleveland did not necessarily have the support of its founders.
The city would need the support of the owners who purchased land in the area. At first glance, explorers and traders liked this area for the proximity it gave them to the Indians. They traded with them and lived outside of Cleveland. At this time the water they lived by was causing many of them to get sick. There were no sanitation or water department at the time.

Have the Browns won a game since the founding of Cleveland?

It don't seem like it but they taught the city how to still appreciate them even after disappointment.
