Why Are People So Lazy?!? ~ Another Funko POP Collection Purchase!!!

in #toys5 years ago

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve posted a few of these types of posts so I apologize if it’s getting a bit old. I just think it’s interesting when these collections walk through our door.

Well this weekend, a gentleman came in with the following Funko Pop Collection. It was a 65 piece Pop Collection...66 pieces of you count the Non Pop Venom 2pk. Same story as usual...the guy is just looking to get rid of some doubles that he no longer wants.

Now for starters, this is not an impressive collection by any means. There are some decent smaller tier exclusives and such, but a large majority are recent commons. We have over 2500 different Pops on the sales floor and a back room with over 15,000 doubles and triples. The last thing we need is more filler...but I’m always willing to hear the guy out.

So he goes on telling me he just wants to move them and he does not care what he gets. Being as I already had a large percentage of these already, I wasn’t thinking much. So I asked what he had in mind...he thought for a few minutes and told me $60 bucks. I felt awful giving him that little. I was honestly thinking around $2 bucks a piece for around $125 but he threw out $60!!! So I told him I’d give him $75 bucks. I felt kinda shitty but at the same time, it’s like 75% stuff I already have multiple times over so it is what it is.

Before handing him his moolah, I did advise him that he would make more on a Facebook group or eBay and he told me he just didn’t want to do the work. I respect that even if I think it’s lazy and shortsighted, and handed him his money. He left a happy camper and said he had more that he was keeping for now and that he’d be back with them if he changed his mind.

Selling collectibles online can be a nightmare but he shortchanged himself several hundred bucks easily by not piecing them out himself. To each his own I guess.

So this lot breaks down to paying around $1.13 a piece for them as it cost me $75 bucks. Funny part is as I was taking pics for this shortly after the deal was done, we ended up selling 3 pieces for $30, $21, and $22 for a total of $73 bucks. So as of this moment, we are $2 bucks away from being even on this and there are still 63 pieces left. This is another one we won’t get rich from, but will easily turn $75 into $800-$1000 over time. I like these buys as they are low risk, high reward and it keeps some new stuff trickling into the shop consistently.

So how about you? Have you ever unloaded a collection for pennies on the dollar? Have you ever touched it out and took the time to piece it out to maximize profits??? Let me know below!!

Anyway, I like sharing these stories with you guys here. Hope you enjoy hearing about them.

Good for you man.. and good on you for being fair and upping the amount. Honestly it's weird right, even for someone like me, who used to have an ebay business, nowadays I just can't be bothered to "make the effort" and sell on ebay. So I totally relate to him rather selling it all off to someone at a potential loss of earnings, just to not have to do all the work and listings. But nah, I keep the shit around in hopes I will want to make the effort at some point. I have been procrastinating big time, and there's tons of shit at home I need to sell. So I will be kicking my own ass to get it done soon. Hopefully :P

Selling on eBay can be a total nightmare...but I’m at the point personally that I have to. Just too much crap that I have following me. It’s exhausting. We should have a sell off contest. I’d whoop ya...just sayin...

Top work sir! I bet @getonthetrain will be super impressed at this bit of money/goods shuffling.

Any idea how much to post one of those, they are an odd size, even though quite light, so selling online would come with a small overhead?

You got a steal though, almost in profit already, nice!

Hey don't you forgettaabouuut me! I do this stuff too.

I’m always impressed with what you do. Love seeing your finds and how quickly you turn shit around.

Just posted 30 more examples to feast your eyes on. Found a nice haul last night I'll prob post later. I'll keep pouring them onto Steemit until I see a post that you listed 50 new Funkos.

You gotta shoot me your username so I can bid and not pay.

He’s so needy...

Nice...hop aboard @fetonthetrain. Check this shit out. 😜

To shop just one of the Pops in the states, it can be shipped First Class for under 5 bucks if you have a small box.

Yeah I bet tomorrow we sell another as it’s new book day with lots of traffic...hopefully...stay the fuck away snow!!!

sounds like a pretty great investment on your part.

Yeah, I’ll buy a lot like this anyway of the week. A buck a Pop?!? Sign me up. Been a good couple week for snaked collections like this. Sometimes we go through dry spells though.

I do think the guy kinda lowballed himself there and should have looked into prices for each piece to get a better idea of what to ask, but hey, you got a good deal out of it at least and he was still happy.

I don't blame him though with not wanting to sell online. I fucking hate selling stuff through ebay for example, because people can be absolutely fucking brain dead. I question how many troglodytes crawled their potato asses out of their cave to make things complicated with my sales on there. Selling comics/trading cards/Pops/Any collectible can be such a fucking hassle, for so many different reasons. I definitely see why it would drive someone off.

Yeah he dug his own grave but I wasn’t offering a ton over that anyway.

Selling online is an absolute nightmare. We have a scummy piece of shit trying to fuck us out of 2k for a Planet Arlie Vegeta Pop we sold him. Claiming he never got it. Tracking shows a signature at his address. Fully insured. I hope he doesn’t get the money back. He opened a claim 2 weeks after delivery and never contacted us at all. Just straight chargeback. Scumbag. Hope he dies of ass cancer.

Wow. What a wonderful example of a human being. Totally not a turbo dickhead piece of shit. Nah.

That's the kind of shit I'm worried about with selling online. Even on a small scale, having someone trying to screw me out of $40-50 is a big deal and could hurt me. Is paypal working with you at all? Or, just taking his side of it even though you're a trustworthy business?

It sold through our website and was processed through Shopify. They “hold” the money while it’s being investigated. Could take up to 74 days. We sent them everything that “should” prove we did everything right. If this guy wins I’m driving the 79 minutes up to him...

Posted using Partiko iOS

Jebus, 74 days? That's a long time for a verdict to be made when you've got a fuck load of evidence to back up your claim here, while he doesn't have shit. What a fucking knuckle dragging, neanderthal that guy is. Truly the epitome of a giant fucking douchebag.

Sorry...75 days...ugh.

Hell yeah, a whole extra day of being worried about getting fucked in the ass from some walking piece of garbage. Thanks, Shopify!

Lolol. I’m gonna lose my shit if we somehow lose this. It’s so obvious what he’s trying to do. AIDS...I hope he gets aids.

Running a Bricklink store is pretty much parting out to the next level, breaking down sets into individual pieces and selling them part by part.

Aside from that, I've done OK picking up used bulk lots of Lego at yard sales and the like, figuring out what sets are there, putting them back together and selling them. Not only do I get to build some cool out of production sets, I make a few bucks doing it too.

That’s awesome and you obviously have a tremendous passion for it.

It helps keep me sane, and the little bit of coin I make helps pay for my hobby. I know of a couple of stores that operate as a full time income which I imagine would be fairly full oj

Yeah, I have to start making a big push this year. I have a ton of shit I need to shed and could use the funds. I just hate dealing with all the nonsense that comes with it.

Selling to pay for the hobby is a damn good feeling though.

When I go to shows, I usually can find people who have tables there that are extraordinarily desperate to unload their goods. Sometimes you can obtain stuff for crazy cheap if you start making deals with only an hour or two left before they’re closing up. A lot of them are desperate to try to make some money up from the tables at the show they paid for.

I sell stuff on the Facebook buy and sells and Kijiji and eBay, but geez, when you have a wife, son, and work close to 50 hours each week, is it ever difficult to find time to sell stuff like Pops. I can understand why some people get lazy with it!

Oh yeah. We do lots of shows so we see that all the time. One time my buddy Jason did a show with me. Wizard World Philadelphia...and on Sunday morning he and another dealer struck a deal for him to buy out my buddy’s table. The whole friggin thing. Madness!! He did well that show. Lol

Posted using Partiko iOS

Wow! Never heard of anyone having their own whole table bought before! Must have been a huge collector!

He bought a massive collection from a dude in Delaware. It was a 750 long box collection with each box containing well over 300 books. Tons of stuff. He did the convention circuit for a couple years selling off stuff. He was down to the tail end, and I guess the deal was good enough to just dump the rest. He did well with it. Sad part is that he split it 3 ways with his father and brother and due to some nonsense throughout, he had a massive falling out with his brother. Haven’t spoke in years.
