Yachting in Greece Day 4 - Zakynthos. Shipwreck beach from above.steemCreated with Sketch.

Navagio Beach (Greek: Ναυάγιο, pronounced [naˈvaʝio]), or Shipwreck Beach, is an exposed cove, sometimes referred to as "Smugglers Cove", on the coast of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. Navagio Beach was originally known as Agios Georgios. On 2 October 1980, a freightliner, the MV Panagiotis, ran aground in the waters around Zakynthos Island on Navagio Beach during stormy weather and bad visibility. Some rumors say the ship was smuggling contraband; however official sources did not confirm this, and the captain was not convicted for such offenses. The ship was abandoned and still rests buried in the limestone gravel of the beach that now bears the nickname Shipwreck. Wikipedia

According to my Instagram stories on day 4 we had a pretty good wind and could finally turn off that noisy diesel engine. It is difficult to explain the sensation when you are crossing the waves at a high speed with no sound of motor. The only near comparison would be driving electric car vs running petroleum engine.

We docked as usual and went out to find a car rental since destination was quite far. Not so easy as there were no rentals nearby or they have been closed down due to the end of the season. Finally while asking around we have found a restaurant and gas station owner who was renting out an old fiat for a whooping 90 EUR!!!. We needed the car just for a few hours but lack of competition allowed car owner to take huge premium on the deal.

The car had a lot of external damage, so instead of taking pictures car owner advised shoooting a video while walking around the car. I do not have image of rental car but it was something similar to this. Trip was not very long so we did not mind the car make or comfort it did not provide, but 90 EUR was still too much. It only reminds that Greeks will always take advantage on tourists when they have a chance. 20191001_093234.jpg

Locations around the island are scenic

On our way to the beach we have found an olive oil factory. They had quite a few varieties with added lime, orange and even chili but i went for a traditional taste. You should definitely buy some since olive oil in Greece is really good and makes a nice present for anybody back home.20190925_183510.jpg

Then we finally came to Navagio (Shipwreck) beach, and that was my main landmark for this trip since i have always wanted to visit it since i saw it on the internet. There is a ridge that you can walk and see the beach from above ant take a few pictures.20190925_191532.jpg

And of course a few selfies that I've wanted to take for a long time. CHECK!!!

The Adriatic Sea and blue water is unbelievable this time of year.

Never been there earlier in the season, is it any different? :)
