My Run in with the ATF

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has joined the Taylor Police in an investigation of a garage explosion that left a local man hospitalized with serious injuries to his face.
A teen who witnessed the explosion tells Fox 2 his neighbor was mixing chemicals Tuesday evening in an attempt to wow onlookers with a spark, but he got more than he bargained for when the spark leaped to nearby bags containing additional chemicals.

However, authorities believe the amateur chemist may have been developing home-made fireworks or an explosive device, and they continue to investigate evidence gathered from the scene at Greenlawn near Beech Daly and Goddard.

“We’re working with the fire marshals and the ATF to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” Taylor Lt. Mary Sclabassi told WWJ-AM 950. “It would appear initially that this was an incident that could have been avoided. We will have to consult with the prosecutor’s office to see if any criminal charges will be appropriate.”
