JS Bach and a GOOGLE DOODLE!
Everyone loves these little Google Doodles... well, everyone in my household does! Especially cool is when they have an interactive doodle, and today we have a great little Classical Music related one! JS Bach themed... and cute as all hell!
You get to learn a little bit about one of the most important composers in Baroque Music, who influenced the direction of music in the Western setting for centuries... even through to the modern day. Our ears and sense of harmony in all Western music (even pop and modern contemporary) is based upon the ideas and compositional techniques that Bach established in his own musical language. At the time there were many other styles and harmonic languages, but Bach tied them together and laid the foundations of future Western music harmony. Even to this day, his chorales are studied as exemplars of "perfect" harmony and voice leading. However, it is interesting that he broke the "correct" rules when required....
This interactive Google Doodle allows you to plonk down a couple of bars of your own musical doodling... and then the AI, which has been trained on around 300 examples of Bach's chorales will harmonise it for you! Note, that in AI terms, 300 is a pitifully small number... so the excercise might not work perfectly! It worked really nicely for me, but my got a slightly weird one...
