A sort of shitpost?

As any parent knows... the period where you are trying to train your children to use the toilet (or the potty...) can be one of the most frustrating and messy times in the whole parenting experience. Oddly enough, with our oldest child, it went pretty smoothly... however, our second child is a different kettle of fish (perhaps that is why things don't go as well, she is neither a kettle nor a fish...).

We had some early success with the pee into the potty... and even into the big toilet! Every time that she manages to do it right, she gets to choose something from this little treasure box that we have for her (pictured above...). It's mostly stickers and stamps with a couple of little toys... but mostly she chooses the stickers (our oldest would have the stamps when she was training...).

However, after that initial flush of beginner's luck... we had many weeks where both myself and my wife were busy... and this is the sort of thing that only really works when you are prepared to spend quite a bit of time monitoring and reminding and sitting the child on the toilet seat... Lately, we have started up again.. and with the pee it has been improving.. we are seeing less wet puddles on the floor or outright soaked through underwear...

We know that she knows what to do... but it is weird... she is scared of letting it out in the potto. She will sit there for ages, and then if we have to leave to go outside (and thus put on a nappy) she will immediately do it then (in the nappy...). Or she will let out the barest little trickle and say that she is done... a few times she has let it all out... and said that it wasn't scary at all! We're hoping to continue that trend...

However, on the back end... things are not going so well. Well, we aren't really trying to train the poop awareness yet... just working on the front end of things. However, when you have one end exposed, you are running the danger that all ends are exposed... and we've had a couple of disasters. First one was not so bad... it stayed in her underwear and that was that...

... last night, was a different thing. My wife took her to the toilet... where she did her thing on the front... and then she (my wife) had to leave for work. Which meant that there was a 5 minute gap where I was finishing up the dishes downstairs where the little one was not monitored and free to poop at will... and unfortunately, she did... and it was big... and then she decided it was a great idea to sit down on her bed...

... let's just say that I heard calls of "POOOP"! from my oldest... and I ran upstairs... too late. There was poop all over the covers and the mattress that was aided by the addition of pee to help it spread everywhere. Sigh... I didn't have the presence of mind to take photos this time... more in an emergency mode of get kid to tiled area (toilet), quick scan for other potential poop spots.... and then get to work cleaning kid and bed.

It's weird, I change her nappies everyday... with varying sloppiness of poop, and it never bothers me. However, cleaning poop of sheets and the covers before putting them in the wash had me retching and wanting to throw up... strange reaction, given that it is exactly the same thing!

Well, it is indeed a shitpost, a post about poop...you can't get closer than this, lol.

For many times a 5 minute gap is all a child needs to screw things up, like, pooping on the bed, accidentally buy something expensive on the phone (it happens...), step on a wire that unplugs the computer with unsaved files...and many many more. Maybe that's the fun of having children in the house...

Yep... the fun... it's like living with a couple of chaos monkeys....

A shit post... 😂 😂 I can just laugh. It's funny as a ln ex teacher and a mother I know the challenges of potty training. good luck 🤞

Sometimes it really goes easy... although, I've read some disaster stories online... so I'm glad we aren't quite that bad!

😂 😂 I hear you

Ahhh this makes me soooo (NOT) excited to start the potty training here.. My oldest was easy like yours.. she went to kindergarten and after one week she said no diaper.. and that was it. A few accidents and it was done, even the nights took only a few weeks.. Such a blessing. Now the youngest will go to kindergarten in September, needing to be potty trained and I'm not looking forward to the pee and poop drama at all. We will start next week when we get back from our holiday as I seriously am too drained to be dealing with the stress of poop or pee everywhere when I need to clean up, and pack out things. Boyfriend has been on a business trip and returns home Sunday, so I'm waiting for my back up on this (possible) messy adventure :-) Btw I'm the same, diapers are no problem, but once its in the bed etc I get the urge to throw up as well ..

The treasure chest is cool! Much better than stickers on a potty train planner.. gonna apply that here as well, thanks for the inspiration :)

With the first one, we pretended to run out of nappies... and so she just resigned herself to just doing it in the potty/toilet! I don't think it will work for this one... she's stubborn, I'm sure that she would just hold on for half a year just to not do it....

Anyway, it is starting to work this week... she is asking to go... mostly! The treasure chest is a sort of fun way to do it!

Hahaha I have to laugh reading about the part that she probably just would hold on half a year :) Sounds like my toddler :) When she doesn't feel like doing something, she just won't and it's really hard to win.. endless battle haha..

I will make a sort of treasure chest when we're back home, as I just realized we only have about 9 weeks left before school starts, so no pressure :P lol...

Today we went to the lake (holiday) and she has been 2,5 hours without a diaper, so I reminded her afterwards that she didn't do anything, and might as well learn to go on the toilet.. her answer was: NO ... sigh.. It's not worth the hassle on holiday when it's a 5 min walk to the lake to let her wear a diaper and then change into her bathingsuit.. so trying to make her aware these few days that she really can do without them.. fingers crossed, as I foresee a pretty big struggle with her stubbornness :)

At least these nasty moments make a great story to write, although I can totally imagine that it was not funny (at all) at the time it happened :)

I'm saving the stories for when she starts bringing friends home, or getting married or just turning 18...

This is quite the 💩 post.

It is always so weird to me that people grave to be trained to go to the bathroom. You would think by 17 or 18 years (with no training at all) you would eventually pick up the idea. 🤣😂🤣

If not it should would make college and work interesting. 😁

Good luck!

Haha... yes, it would make adult life quite "interesting"... on the other hand, if everyone did it, it wouldn't be a problem! Bah, for societal norms and expectations!
