05092018 : Free Form Geode : Test 2 : Day 3

in #art8 years ago

After yesterday's acrylic pour session (video still to be uploaded) I was bored.

Bored that the acrylic pours go so quickly. I'm used to the hours of work involved in orgonites so to have my art done and dusted in 20 minutes - I dunno. I feel like I haven't done enough.

So I moved on and decided, despite the weather, to continue "Test 2" do day 3, which is pretty much layer 3.

Test 2 : Day 1
Test 2 : Day 2

MATERIALS

  • Clear Casting Polyester Resin
  • Light green and teal mica pigments
  • Liquitex 'Mars Black'
  • Glass chips - Clear and Black

Day 3 /Layer 3 left me with a dark grey border that I wasn't happy with and a lighter center (also wasn't happy with) so my aim for yesterday's pour was to correct these and slowly mix the colours together so they flowed into each other.

You can see in this video that I'm using my beloved silicone cups.

Resin is not like acrylic, you can't wash resin off. Well I suppose you can if you had a ton of acetone, but you don't really want to do that. Most people working with resin uses plastic cups which is, in this case, single use. Resin peels off silicone once it's set so it makes so much more sense to use silicone cups with resin. You can see it also allows for precision pouring - cant really do that with cups.

I may have another layer or two to go after this, but I havent decided yet.

Also, watch out for the Test 3 : Day 1 video coming up later today. Test 2 went too quick and I got bored again so I started Test 3 last night :D
