Free Form Geode : Test 2 : Day 1
Breathing a little easier yesterday despite the pungent smell of resin in the air and for the first time in ages all my unfinished "series" started to come to me.
I believe I have at least 2 more episodes of "Aussie Stackers" to write. I also need to continue my "Acrylic Pouring" series ~ I think I'm up to "#3: Pour it on that one.
It just makes so much sense to add another item to my unfinished list lol but here it is.
One of the reasons I've abandoned Floetrol for now is because I have a few custom orgonite orders to complete. At the moment I have 5 people on my waiting list and here I am ~ have not touched resin in ages and when I did, it didn't work out.
I figured I need to get the feel of it back, work out my ratios and curing times via the geodes so I don't waste crystals, but at the same time get my crystals on, in a different way.
This is only my 2nd go at this and I'm still working it out so I'm no expert. If you are, please give me pointers!
For those wondering what happened to test 1 here it is. It's too embarrassing to get its own post so I'm sneaking it in here.
As you can see it really didn't work out, heaps wrong with it. Here's the main points.
This was all done in sitting with different colours having different amounts of catalyst.
You can see the film bowed.
The majority of the glitter I added sunk to the bottom.
With all that in mind I decided to pace myself a little here and treat this like orgonite.
Orgonites using clear casting polyester, depending if you got your resin to catalyst ratio right for that temperature, should cure in about 10-15 minutes. So technically a free form geode with 4 layers on it should be done in 1 day not across a few days like most of the videos out there.
This was my expectation yesterday afternoon but by the time I got everything ready, it was late, I got my ratios wrong and curing was taking forever so it has stretched out to 2 days.
Day 1
Full disclosure. I actually had all this set up days ago but have been so busy lately that I am only getting the resin on it now.
What is it?
It's a transparent A4 film meant for printing with a dam made out of silicone. Yup. Sister girlfriend is now armed with a silicone gun and how sweet does that dam look? On it are glass chips from Bunnings.
I decided to mix up some clear resin to pour over my glass to keep them in place.
After waiting 30 minutes for this to set I decided to be proactive and premix my next lot of resin with pigment powder.
Going for green targeting my heart chakra via colour therapy.
After a further 10 minutes (now 40 minutes wait for this to cure) I couldn't hold it any longer. I went in and added the greens.
Can you see how the green is moving the clear resin forward? That means my first layer hadn't set and I poured too early. Otherwise it would have flowed over the top of the clear and not mixed together.
Since I was there and I stuffed it already might as well keep going. I added another shade of green, a tealy shade, in the empty space hoping it would blend with the other two giving it a gradient effect.
It sort of worked. And this is where I left off yesterday.
I'm Steemiting in bed right now finishing this post and I haven't gotten up to see how its all looking this morning. My biggest fear is that the film will bow like the other one. If it does that I wont be able to add the next layer which is the glitter layer.
Hubby suggested we put something heavy over it to try and keep it flat so I did that and Im hoping it worked. We'll see soon!
Happy Friday Steemit!
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
I'll take your word on messing something up, it looks pretty to me :) Hope it didn't bow!
