Let down's with great endings!

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Sometimes the universe just brings people together. You know those times you think of someone or something and it just pops into your life seamless randomly. You still raise an eyebrow knowing it is a strange coincidence. As the evening drew to a close I was talking to my cousin on the phone. We ended the conversation more or less about what was going on in our lives and other generalities. We hang up basically catching up not knowing what the evening holds.

After we get the house in order and kids where they should be we then make our way to a closed group invitation for those that have used a particular venue in the past.

I have never seen a spectacle such as what I saw tonight. A free sampling of a venue from an owner who has retired and is giving the keys to someone else. We have used the previous owners catering in the past, and that's why we were invited. But then the food arrived.

It was if nobody had ever seen food before. A swarm of people literally chased down the server before they could even reach the main venue hall. It was actually quiet pathetic. Even a Kim Kardashian-esque young women spoke up about the animistic nature of the crowd to the servers and told the servers she will never use the caterer unless the food was brought to our table properly.

At that moment my cousin and the fam just strolled in looking for a free bite to try as well. We were very surprised but felt completely at ease now. As we sat together we realized it was now a real feel for a celebration. The animals faded in the background and we concentrated on fun.

Honestly what people were chasing wasn't particularly good. The spring rolls were edible, but oily as hell and not with very much taste.
The Samosas were also overpowered with breading rather than the flavors inside. What flavors inside couldn't mask the oily wrapping and only had slight flavor.

A strange man also started to sing and tell us he was famous. He seemed harmless enough; but it was awkward when he sang Brittney Spear's, "Hit me Baby One more Time"

I like the well put together salad. It was kind a thin smoked meat with finely chopped pickles, bean sprouts, and a light dressing. The pickles were chopped so fine and paper thin made me appreciate the dish even more.

You could not pay people to eat the quiche. We all tried it but as you can see the the extra's littered the table.

There was a beautiful carved watermelon.

In the end the biggest surprise was seeing my cousin with his family. We actually made it like a wedding because it shows more it's NOT always the food that makes the evening. We were truly surprised and happy to have a fake party together. As usual I took a picture of my wife's stew. It needed a little extra.

Overall the evening was a great success. I always used to think the food made the experience; but I was surprised that the family was what made it more fun in the end.

Pictured above is my wife's Stew. I had it this week. It needed a little of the above ingredients.

The End.

Sounds like you won't be using this new caterer. At least it was a free night out with the relatives. Here's a free !BEER to wash down the aftertaste... lol
