Paintings of real places!

in #art5 years ago

Starting a new series of paintings of real places in South Africa, and how and where they were painted.

Oil painting by Ada Fagan:

The place:

The Amanzimtoti River can be found down the Natal coast of South Africa.

I first encountered it as a young child. In those days you could hire a rowing boat for the day and row quietly up and down the river.

It was a peace adventure. Because the boat moves silently and slowly, you can watch birds do their thing, chirping and flying around making nests, etc.

How this painting came about:

Just a few years ago, I had the chance to visit the place again and take a few photos of the river and its wildlife.

This particular scene I painted from that series of photos. The original photo was taken just as the rain was starting, a little drop here and there, before the rain comes down fully.

And that was what fascinated me to paint it. You can see how the raindrops hit the water and create round outbound circles.

I also love fresh green and blue paintings. Even though galleries here in South Africa have declared cool scenes are not popular. I think it’s the lushness of the freshness that makes me feel free and happy.

Which do you prefer?

Do you like fresh green summer paintings, OR dry golden brown winter scenes?

And why is that your choice?

That one beautiful painting

Glad you liked it. But which do you like best green scenes or dry brown scenes and why?

I prefer fresh green summer paintings because in my opinion everything that is painted will be seen clearly.

A dry brown scene gives me the impression there is a drought, whereas a green scene reminds me that there as been plenty rain and crops have been watered. Green foliage means life to me.

I certainly did :) Being a fellow South African and art lover it caught my attention which is why it was curated by @theluvbug :) As for my choice... definitely the fresh, vibrant summery colours! xxx

I curate MANY posts manually on a daily basis. Over and above managing my own blog as well as the PowerHouse Creatives Community here on Steem - as well as being a mom to a 9yr old boy - I simply do not have the time to comment and engage on every post I like... but I still support them.

Beautiful travel.
