The Gridcoin addiction growssteemCreated with Sketch.

Some distance away from my place is my friend's home, in which there's a room full of large collection of fast, mostly modern computers sitting idle. They're hooked up to a board that allows my cousin and his wife to switch the different systems from his computer to her computer, from work computers to personal computers.
It's an amazing set up.
To me now, it's a room of Gridcoin generating Boinc task processors.
I tried, I asked my cousins if would be possible to hook their system up to the Boinc program and help save the world.
I made a pretty good sales pitch and covered most of the different programs he could be working on, as well as how a Gridcoin wallet works. I even smiled slightly to humour him when he joked that his computers don't Boinc.
He said he would have to think about it.
I let him know "I must have that room."
People are starting to wonder if I have a problem.

My Sister's become a convert though, she's added her Desktop to the mix and was nice enough to put the program in my name; and later today she's going to be putting her LG phone into the mix. It'simage.jpeg a spare phone so can sit at home running.
I'll admit that I have concerns about over heating phones, but if Boinc caused phones to heat up and explode I'd have heard about it by now.
Wouldn't I?
This isn't something people are keeping from me?

My older Brothers laptop is six years old and has seen better days, he still uses it on a daily basis but we both pretty much looked at it and decided that processing anything would be the death of the computer.

There are some questions that come up as my discussions on the topic have crossed the line into either cult like recruitment or 'sell make-up at home' type talk. I'm trying very careful not to come across as a pitch but sometime it can't be helped, as long as I keep track of which of my friends are altruist and which are more concerned about profit.
I've added five friends to Gridcoin, and so far six to Steemit.

This observation I did make though, my friends that make their living in the stock market or just dip their toes tend to be more interested. They tend to ask more questions, about Gridcoins future and where to buy. Currently the word I keep hearing is 'speculation,' and growth of it value.
I have to do more research and figure out how to handle the supply and demand structure, and make a best guess on what it's value will be next year based on other people's best guesses.

Where can it be spent?

As a side note I discovered that I can get upvotes by getting trophies, I've decided that since this post will be a milestone post that I'm going to be around commenting on other posts and doing likes; as this is the most recent post they should come to this one.
I'm hoping that will increase my steempower as well, which I've found I've also become addicted to.
So if you see weird, random comments somewhere it's not because I've gone insane; there's a plan a foot.
Thank-you

For Android phones, I reccommend going into the preferences and turning the max battery temperature down to 30degC, charging Li-Ion batteries while they are warm can reduce life. No danger of fire/explosion though.

That old laptop can also have some BOINCing left in it, overheating will be a problem but for that you can use TThrottle

I didn't even know that was an option, personally I use an IPhone so will definitely have to look at doing that.
Thank you.

You cant BOINC on an iPhone can you?

No, I read in a forum somewhere recently that it's because Apple doesn't allow something to be open enough to.
I'm actually considering replacing my IPhone with an android because there's a few things I'm envious about.

Yeah, I cant stand Apple, its all good until its not, and then you find out how inflexible it is.

Older laptops shouldn't be any more likely to overheat than newer ones, they just won't be as productive. Just make sure the fans still operate properly and any dust bunnies are blown out. I've had a couple of very old laptops running boinc recently and they didn't have any problem. For about a year I had an old Dell Pentium III laptop running 24/7 for magic jack purposes and it also ran BOINC. Currently I have an old iBook (1.42 GHz Power PC) running 24x7 as I use it to digitize some old 8mm video and it is running BOINC when it isn't doing that. Neither one has problems overheating but obviously they aren't generating a lot of credit either.

My CPU is working for The World Community Grid and some Gridcoin as well. Too bad the Gridcoins don't even pay for the extra electricity costs, but well, saving the world.

I think it's an added incentive, with the hope the value goes up in the future.

My house has solar panels so the extra cost is offset by a sunny day.

It helps offset part of your electricity bill for now, if Gridcoin continues to rise in value it should become entirely profitable for the majority of users in the future.
