RE: The Gridcoin addiction grows

For Android phones, I reccommend going into the preferences and turning the max battery temperature down to 30degC, charging Li-Ion batteries while they are warm can reduce life. No danger of fire/explosion though.

That old laptop can also have some BOINCing left in it, overheating will be a problem but for that you can use TThrottle

I didn't even know that was an option, personally I use an IPhone so will definitely have to look at doing that.
Thank you.

You cant BOINC on an iPhone can you?

No, I read in a forum somewhere recently that it's because Apple doesn't allow something to be open enough to.
I'm actually considering replacing my IPhone with an android because there's a few things I'm envious about.

Yeah, I cant stand Apple, its all good until its not, and then you find out how inflexible it is.

Older laptops shouldn't be any more likely to overheat than newer ones, they just won't be as productive. Just make sure the fans still operate properly and any dust bunnies are blown out. I've had a couple of very old laptops running boinc recently and they didn't have any problem. For about a year I had an old Dell Pentium III laptop running 24/7 for magic jack purposes and it also ran BOINC. Currently I have an old iBook (1.42 GHz Power PC) running 24x7 as I use it to digitize some old 8mm video and it is running BOINC when it isn't doing that. Neither one has problems overheating but obviously they aren't generating a lot of credit either.
