My CPU is working for The World Community Grid and some Gridcoin as well. Too bad the Gridcoins don't even pay for the extra electricity costs, but well, saving the world.
I think it's an added incentive, with the hope the value goes up in the future.
My house has solar panels so the extra cost is offset by a sunny day.
It helps offset part of your electricity bill for now, if Gridcoin continues to rise in value it should become entirely profitable for the majority of users in the future.
